What are we going to do ?We are going to breed goats. By breeding goats we can make healthy dairy products for our 20 families to have. Things we are going to make:Goat milk, cheese, yoghurt, meat, soap, lotion.

Why choose goats ?Rona Sulivan said; One of the reasons that we go to such great lengths to be sustainable is that it affords us the opportunity to have two of us on the farm full time. We have been able to survive much adversity with our dairy goats: Hurricane Isabel, tornadoes, drought, family illness, power outages and more. Our micro goat dairy allows some flexibility during those hard times. We’ve been able to slow down without giving up. Dairy goats are hard work. There are many benefits and rewards, even though it often takes a few years to make a profit.( Rona Sulivan owns ‘dairy goat journal’ magazine)

Feeding is very important because this affects the reproduction and the ability to breed.

Water is the most important food source. The goats should be able to get access to water anytime anywhere. They should get 0.75 to 1.5 gallons a day.

Pasture and Browse are the most economical food source of nutrients for goats.

Hay provides nutrients you can buy hay from farmers or grow hay yourself.

Page 10: Sustainability Week
