Educational institutions play a significant role in promoting newer sustainability-based values, resource efficient models and technological advances. Transformational change in

the society can happen only through spreading knowledge, information and sustainability-oriented values among citizens and especially the younger generation. We face many challenges in integrating sustainability into curriculum.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) framework provided by the United Nations has also helped us redirect our focus on integrating sustainability at the core of education. Engaging with youth through a pedagogy seeped in values makes them future ready for new age challenges and inclusive thinking. Anthropocentric learning needs to evolve into a learning experience of compassion and care.

To fulfill this vision, redesign of contents and methods of teaching and learning must happen. Transformational changes of all spheres of education must be envisaged. Traditional pedagogy needs to morph into a holistic pedagogy.

Strategies should be based on substitution of current education systems from competitive philosophy to one built on compassion. Reporting on sustainability strategies, material issues and espoused values help close the loop from education to action. Business as usual is no longer satisficing mode of being and doing. Organizations that have adopted the sustainability mandate are increasingly taking on leadership positions across sectors and industries, creating lasting transformative change across society and bringing sustainability into the mainstream.It is the call of the hour to explore the potentialities of an education system steered by the idea of sustainability.

Taking forward the Jesuit values of environmental justice and peace, Xavier School of Sustainability (XSoS), Xavier University Bhubaneswar (XUB) is organising its' fourth sustainability summit with the theme "Mainstreaming Sustainability: Role of Education and Reporting” in Partnership with Wipro Foundation and GRI. The summit will be held during November17, 2018 at Xavier University Bhubaneswar, India.
