OverviewHow this project will succeed. In a paper that was published in Nature a fewyears ago, in which Ernst Fehr and Simon Gachterhad people play a commons dilemma. A game inwhich you give people money, and then on eachround of the game, they can put money into acommon pot, and then the experimenter doubleswhats in there, and then its all divided amongthe players. So its a really nice analog for allsorts of environmental issues where were askingpeople to make a sacri ce and they themselvesdont really bene t from their own sacri ce.

Fehr and Gachter said -- on the seventh roundthey told people, You know what? New rule. If you want to give some of your own money topunish people who arent contributing, you cando that. And as soon as people heard about thepunishment issue going on, cooperation shootsup. It shoots up and it keeps going up. Theres alot of research showing that to solve cooperativeproblems, it really helps. Its not enough to justappeal to peoples good motives, it really helps

to have some sort of punishment. Even if its justshame or embarrassment or gossip, you needsome sort of punishment to bring people, whentheyre in large groups, to cooperate. Theres evensome recent research suggesting that religion-- priming God, making people think aboutGod -- often, in some situations leads to morecooperative, more pro-social behavior.

Home PageUsing satire to introduce the portal of information, this home page gives the hard factsto a wary and ambivalent audience. The same

presentation style that made Jon Stewarts Daily Show a trusted source of di cult newswill work for this topic as well.

The importance of using satire andpushing the creative format is becausethey are associative presentations. The associations invoke the parallelprocessing part of our brains whichsee the world holistically. See thepresentation by Jill Bolte-Taylor aNeuroanatomist at a Harvard for moredetails.

REPEATING DABDA VISUAL MODELCopyright 2004 by Michael Stancato

Psychologists describe DABDA, (Denial, Anger, Bargaining,Depression and Acceptance) as frequently repeating orperhaps even the stages being mixed when it comes todealing with loss or change. My theory is that the repeatingDABDA is actually like an ever narrowing spiral path up acone shaped obstacle leading to an apex of understanding, resolution and departure. Just like a path switch-backs upa mountain, frequently crossing the same rock fall but toa lesser degree each subsequent time as the avalancheof debris narrows from its point of breakage at the higherelevation. Soon well be at the mountain pass ready to moveon and with a grand view in all directions.

ITS IMPORTANT TO KNOW WHAT DABDA IS.

Death and Dying pioneer Elizabeth Kubler-Ross, M.D. passedaway Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at her home in Arizona of natural causes. Dr. Kubler-Ross is known worldwide as the

foremost authority on the study of death and dying andhas authored many books on the subject. Her 1969 ground-breaking book On Death and Dying became a best seller andintroduced the world to her theory that the dying go through

ve stages of grief -denial, anger, bargaining, depression andacceptance. This theory is now taught in college classroomsworldwide.

Change Meter When will all this change be over?

We are not doomed to global extinction but weare making our lives much harder than need be. This meter is a very optimistic measure of whatsclose at hand. We are close to solving many of

our problems. We just have to pull together asa community and use reason and technologyin a carefully considered manner. The Amish dothis. We can learn from them and nd a balancebetween biology and technology.

Inventor, futurist and author Ray Kurzweildescribes biological evolution and technologicalevolution as one in the same. DNA is a memorysystem just as is in our computers. Use the Evolution Pace-O-Meter to understandthe relationship between biological evolution andtechnological evolution. Use the meter to gaugeour current progress and navigate safely towardsthe singularity and safety.

Sustainability Indicators usedat the point of action andthe point of decision will beinstrumental in achieving thisnext step.

Evolution Pace-O-Meter Are we going to make it?

Based on the book The Singularityis Near by Ray Kurzweil.
