Sustainability is key to the future of preserving and protecting large areas of land in Africa. It is a combination of guests staying at our lodges, together with partnerships on various different levels, that enables us to pursue our vision.
– Luke Bailes, Founder & Executive Chairman, Singita

SINGITA IS COMMITTED TO SAVING AFRICA’S WILDERNESS
We’ve been preserving African wilderness for the past two decades. Through an exceptional safari experience with 15 award-winning lodges and camps across South Africa, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Rwanda, Singita is able to partially fund the protection and preservation of pristine land and existing wildlife populations, as well as helping to create economic independence within local communities surrounding the reserves.
Travellers choose to stay at Singita because of the expansive space and beauty of the reserves, limited guest and vehicle numbers, extraordinarily consistent game viewing and the exceptional care that is taken of each guest during their stay. When guests depart after a Singita safari, they are transformed for life, satisfied in the knowledge that they’ve made a contribution to the legacy of Africa.

CONSERVATION AS A WAY OF LIFE
Built upon a 100-year purpose to preserve and protect African wilderness for future generations, Singita has been championing conservation in Africa from the very beginning. We achieve this with large-scale projects in wildlife management and protection, reserve and ecosystem integrity, sustainable tourism practices and community development.
Through a sustainable conservation model that helps balance tourism with conservation in all regions in which we operate, Singita’s ethos of
“touching the earth lightly” is no longer just a forward-thinking principle; it is imperative to our survival, and that of the land, wildlife and communities under our care.

By capturing the spirit of the original Castleton Camp, this private-use homestead retains its historical and elegant, comfortable nature. Castleton combines the most coveted elements of a private safari lodge with the rustic charm of a country farmhouse. Many original antiques and furnishings have been refashioned, adding authenticity to the living areas that extend outdoors onto deep, covered verandas that overlook tranquil lawns, a busy waterhole frequented by game, and an expansive swimming pool. Shared spaces encourage relaxation, togetherness and profound engagements with the African wilderness.

WEATHER AND TEMPERATURE
Best t ime to go on safari Southern Africa is a year-round destination. Traditionally the dry winter months (April to October) are best for game viewing, due to the shorter grass, lack of foliage and the absence of water which forces the game to concentrate around the remaining sources of drinking water. Annual rainfall, usually in the form of short afternoon thunder showers that clear up within an hour, occur from December to March. Many species give birth to their young around the start of the rainy season which is when the bush comes alive with newborn animals.
Average Seasonal temperature rangesSpring (Sept – Nov)Low 20 °C / 68°FHigh 30 °C / 86°F
Summer (Dec – Feb)Low 23 °C / 73 °FHigh 38 °C / 100 °F
Autumn (March – May)Low 22 °C / 72 °FHigh 31 °C / 88 °F
Winter (June – Aug)Low 18 °C / 64 °FHigh 29 °C / 84 °F
The above temperatures are the monthly averages. The actual
daily temperatures may differ from these.
