Sustainable Construction
Sustainable Construction mitigates harmful effects of the actual construction process (activities) and exploits opportunities for cost and material savings (WIN – WIN).
It is different from “green design” and environmentally-friendly O&M, though the three approaches are and should be collaborative.
CH2M HILL’s sustainable construction program concisely provides our construction managers with written procedures to minimize negative environmental impacts during construction, which often ultimately reduces project costs.

Asphalt Recycling and Reuse
Recycled more than 27,000 tons of asphalt (since 2009 UCAP Program)

Crushed Concrete Used more than 45,000 tons of crushed concrete for road base material
in lieu of limerock base (since 2009 UCAP Program)

The project tracked construction equipment emissions monthly as evidence of the importance of minimizing the use of combustion engines during construction
Communicated message to project team and subcontractors
Calculating and communicating pollutants from construction activities emphasized the importance of responsible equipment operation and saved money in operating costs
