CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH PART ONE: THE PROFESSION OF FAITH
Section Two: THE CREEDS Chapter One: I BELIEVE IN GOD THE FATHER
Article One: “I believe in God the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth”
Paragraph Two: The Father
IV. The Divine Works and the Trinitarian Missions
The whole divine economy is the common work of the three
divine persons. For as the Trinity has only one and the same
natures so too does it have only one and the same operation:
"The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are not three principles
of creation but one principle." However, each divine person
performs the common work according to his unique personal
property. Thus the Church confesses, following the New
Testament, "one God and Father from whom all things are, and
one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom all things are, and one
Holy Spirit in whom all things are". It is above all the divine
missions of the Son's Incarnation and the gift of the Holy Spirit
that show forth the properties of the divine persons.
Being a work at once common and personal, the whole divine
economy makes known both what is proper to the divine persons,
and their one divine nature. Hence the whole Christian life is a
communion with each of the divine persons, without in any way
separating them. Everyone who glorifies the Father does so
through the Son in the Holy Spirit; everyone who follows Christ
does so because the Father draws him and the Spirit moves him.

SIGN BEFORE THE GOSPEL
Question: I have been going to Mass for years and have always wondered: why do we make the three signs of the cross before the Gospel?
Answer: Certainly, many people go to Mass or other devotions, doing and saying things out of habit or reverence and not really understanding the reasons behind some of these things. But everything we do has a meaning or purpose that helps us to worship better, proclaim our beliefs, or focus the attention of the people on something that has a greater importance or significance. A review of the meaning of various gestures and practices can help us have a deeper appreciation for what we do.
There is a little prayer that goes with the three crosses before the Gospel: “May the words of the Holy Gospel be on my mind, on my lips and in my heart.” In standing to hear the Gospel, we acknowledge that Jesus is present, and the words of the Gospel are addressed to us. All of the gestures and special postures we adopt before the Gospel are intended to help us prepare for hearing the Word as well as act on it. The incense, the Alleluia, the deacon or priest, and the special dialogue and announcement that introduces the Gospel help us focus our attention on the Good News we are about to hear. The three signs of the cross show our desire and good intention to hear and live the Gospel. ©LPi

LITURGICAL EVENTS & NEWS
A Message from Most Rev. Mark
Brennan, Bishop of Wheeling-Charleston
DISPENSATION FROM THE OBLIGATION TO ATTEND MASS
While no member of the Faithful is bound to attend Mass where
impossibility arises, West Virginia borders a number of dioceses in
which Masses are still being publicly celebrated, and many of our
Faithful are easily able to attend those Masses. Owing to the grave
nature of the current public health crisis, and not wishing that an of
our flock be compelled to place themselves unnecessarily at risk, I
hereby dispense all those who reside within the territory of the
Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston from their obligation to attend
Mass. The intention of this dispensation, along with the suspension
of public liturgies in the Diocese, is to encourage the Faithful to
practice “social distancing” and “self-quarantine” to the extent that
their state of life permits, by which we hope to contribute to the
containment and end of the current pandemic.
ST. AGNES NEWS
Office hours are weekdays from 12:00pm-2:00pm.
Masses Online
Bishop Brennan has released guidelines for parishes to submit a plan to resume the celebration of public
Masses within the next few weeks. We will be following the Bishop’s directives to make accommo-dations for everyone’s health and safety during this
transitional phase. When our reopening plan has been approved by the Diocese, we will be able to provide more details on our reopening. The Bishop’s letter is
available on our parish website. For now, we are still broadcasting our Sunday
mass online on our Facebook page and our parish website each week.

LA ECONOMÍA SACRAMENTAL
CAPÍTULO PRIMERO: EL MISTERIO
PASCUAL EN EL TIEMPO DE LA IGLESIA
ARTÍCULO 2: EL MISTERIO PASCUAL
EN LOS SACRAMENTOS DE LA IGLESIA
II.
