Corporate ProfileOur CCTV security lenses protect and support the public whilst they go about their daily lives in and around
airports, stations, public buildings, financial institutions, shops and on highways. As the needs of society
change, so too will the requirements of CCTV in sectors such as information technology, conservation and
health & safety.
Since its entry to the CCTV lens market in 1961, RICOH's Surveillance Buisiness Department (founded as
PENTAX) has produced lenses with a focus on quality, performance and durability for manufacturers and
customers around the world. Our continuous product development has enabled us to maintain a high level
of trust and customer satisfaction throughout the past and into the future.
The most important quality factor of a lens is its ability to capture clear images through a combination of
resolving power and contrast. RICOH CCTV Lenses are designed and built using modern technologies and
precision manufacturing techniques. They produce high resolution images with superb contrast trusted by
clients from all over the industry.
RICOH produces a series of high power PAIR zoom lenses with electronic image stabilisation, designed
to reduce airborne atmospheric interference in the surveillance field and controlled by RS-interfaces.
All this, incorporated inside the lens housing!
In addition to the extensive zoom lens range, RICOH offers enhanced binoculars also with PAIR Functions,
electronic image stabilisation, engineered to produce high quality images in dense fog or after dark.
Advanced PENTAX performance continues to win domestic and global renown by solving the needs of the
times. RICOH Technology for helping people.
...vision... far beyond imagination.
We would like to point out that we also offer many other lenses for Factory Automation in our Machine Vision
catalogue. If interested, please call us on+49-(0)40-532 01-33 66 or download the catalogue from our

Ultra-Telephoto Motorized Zoom Lens incorporating PAIR technology (PENTAX Atmospheric Interference Reduction)
PAIR Zoom Lenses
Features
 Effective not only for fog and rain, but also airborne particles of sand, smoke and snow.
 Re-introduces colour from degraded images in real time.
 Autofocus function improves the ultra-telephoto zoom lens operation.
 Contained within the lens, the system is suitable for any camera.
 Instantly renders clear images when switching from one image to the next in joint surveillance systems.
Fog reduction
 Our unique image processing technology reduces both liquid microparticles (fog, rain etc) and solid microparticles (smoke, sand etc).
 Unlike systems using optical filters that filter the visible light wavelengths leaving a b&w image. PAIR maintains a color image thus aiding target identification.
 Systems filtering visible light suffer from a lack of intensity and brightness.
 PAIR not only allows adjustment of image brightness but also backlight compensation and enhancement of images at night.
 PAIR used in conjunction with the autofocus improves focusing accuracy.
Image stabiliser
 Image stabilisation is essential for viewing long distance objects.
 An especially useful function for super telephoto lenses, which can become blurred easily with only minor vibration. The effects of wind on high CCTV masts creates excessive vibra-tion to images.
 The electronic image stabilisation is more reliable than optical systems. The stabiliser parameters are optimized for the specific lens characteristics.

Zoom, focus, autofocus, and the PAIR system are controllable by computer via an RS-232C, 422 or 485
interface. The on-board algorithm reduces all image interferences, for capturing a clearer, more natural picture.
All PAIR functions are controlled remotely from a PC. Instant switching between pre-processed and post-
processed images is possible at the click of a button.
(1) The zoom lens with built-in PAIR connects with a PC via an RS-232C, 422 or 485 interface.
(2) Images captured by the CCD camera are input back into the PAIR board integrated in the zoom lens.
(3) The Processed image is altered according to the parameters set by the software on the PC utilising the
camera's output video signal.Users can select any camera, because image processing responds to the
video signal produced by the selected camera.
(4) Outputs video images to a PC with a standard video capture device.

Main uses
Wide field and long-range surveillance
at national borders, ports, airports, etc.
This series is available in a multitude of variations, from
compact low-power zooms to advanced ultrahigh-power
varieties. Suitable for multiple applications, from internal
surveillance at stations and factories to large area
surveillance at ports and national borders.
The rugged durability and time tested reliability of our lenses
compliment an extensive range of surveillance systems.
The lens's zoom range is 12 to 660 mm,
and when the internal 2.5X extender is
switched in, the focal length increases to
24 to 1,680 mm. With 1,680 mm focal
length at 1,000m distance, the field of
view is 3.8 m by 2.8 m. The extremely
high magnification in combination with
HD resolution means a person can be
identified at distances in excess of 600 m.
Therefore, this lens is ideal for video
surveillance in city centers, air ports,
harbours, as well as for border control,
intersections, city streets and highways

Technical Information
This series of lenses are designed to be used with IR-sensitive colour cameras (day/night cameras). During the
day colour reproduction remains unaltered and at night these lenses, due to there optical arrangement, focus
IR and White Light at the same point creating no discernable focus shift. These lenses are also recommended
for b/w cameras which reproduce high IR-reflecting surfaces such as grass and foliage particularly well.
Day/night lenses (D/N lenses)
The angle formed by the two lines from the 2nd principle
point and the edges of the sensor is called the angle of
view. Therefore, the focal length of the lens is fixed
regardless of the image format size of the camera.
Conversely, the angle of view varies in accordance with
the image size. The focal lengths in the catalogue are
nominal and the angles of view calculated by the
formula referring to the focal lengths are approximate.

The C and CS mount connection is a one inch thread
with a specification 1-32UN-2A or B or W 1 inch x 32TPI
(TPI = Thread per inch) and almost corresponds with the
metric thread M25.5 x 0.75 mm. The angle of light
projection for the one inch thread is 55°. However, the
metric thread is 60°. By using a FP-MA C/CS Mount
adapter, a C mount lenses can be used on CS mount
camera, but it’s not possible to use a CS mount lens on
a C mount camera.

H = C × F

When an object is focused, it is typically observed that the area in front and behind the object is also in focus.
The range in focus is called depth of field. When the background is extended to infinity, the object distance
(focusing distance) is called the hyper focal distance. Depth of field is calculated by the following formula.
F = F No.
H = hyper focal distance
f = focal length
L = object distance
(measured from image sensor)
T1 = near limit
T2 = far limit
C = circle of least confusion
Depth of field increases when:
*Focal length is shorter
*F-number is larger
*Object distance is longer
Depth of Field
The following values are reference
values given a resolution that is
about the same as VGA.
1/1” format = 0.04 mm
2/3” format = 0.03 mm
1/2” format = 0.02 mm
1/3” format = 0.015 mm
1/4” format = 0.011 mm
The F number is the index for the amount of light that
passes through a lens. The smaller the number, the
greater the amount of light. The F number is a ratio
between the focal length and the effective aperture as
follows.
fD
==
Focal length effective diameter (Diameter of entrance pupil)
F number = Df
F Number
Rays from infinitely distant objects are condensed
internally in the lens at a common point on the optical
axis. The point at which the image sensor of the
camera is positioned is called the focal point. By virtue
of design, lenses have 2 principal points, 1st principle
point and a 2nd principle point. The distance between
the 2nd principle point and the focal point (image
sensor) determines to focal length of the lens.
