Surrealism

• Surrealism is a style of art in which fantastic images from a person’s subconscious mind are used to make paintings or sculpture that doesn’t make logical sense.– It was founded by Andre Breton in 1924

– Most Surrealists were Marxists, or communist, which was popular in Europe and the U.S. at that time.

– Surrealism was a mostly European movement.

– It was deeply influenced by the psychoanalytic work of Sigmund Freud.

• Known as a symbolist and a surrealist

• His style of painting inspired the surrealists
