1. Introduction

A security camera has to provide all-time video for different lighting

conditions of different environments. From outdoor midnight street to

indoor dark storage room, keeping good visibility is very important and

necessary. However, it is a challenge in these scenarios that the camera

with traditional CMOS has, and also its limitation in rare lighting

environments.

VIVOTEK has been seeking for a new CMOS and image signal

processing technology, supreme night visibility, which has been proved

in great progress of low light performance.

Fig.1 IP8330 is the first camera which applies supreme night visibility technology

to provide excellent video quality and night-time performance.

2. Night Vision

The video quality and night-time performance of a security camera

mainly depend on two attributes: the lux rating and the infrared (IR)

response. Under low light conditions with IR Illumination, the sensor

employed in the camera plays a crucial role in the video quality ultimately

seen by the viewer.

The low lux rating means the camera can capture more light even

under low light conditions. It is designed for cameras to improve image

clarity and reduces grain drastically. So the user can monitor in lower

lighting conditions with better results.

Infrared is used in night vision equipment when there is insufficient

visible light to see. Night vision devices operate through a process

involving the conversion of ambient light photons into electrons which are

then amplified by a chemical and electrical process and then converted

back into visible light. Infrared light sources can be used to augment the

available ambient light for conversion by night vision devices, increasing

in-the-dark visibility without actually using a visible light source.

perfectly in total darkness as well.

3. Sensor Technology

VIVOTEK is leading the pack in low lux performance by utilizing a

sensor from Aptina built with DigitalClarity technology to exploit amazing

image capability and powerful video performance. As the latest

high-quality IP camera for demanding security applications, the IP8330,

featuring Supreme Night Visibility, has excellent near IR response for

night vision and incorporates all features of the Aptina sensor as shown

in the datasheet.

IP8330 contains an Aptina sensor featuring DigitalClarity technology.

Fig.4 DigitalClarity offers exceptional low light performance exceeding

requirements expected from CCD sensors and provides excellent Near

Infra-Red (NIR) response for night vision.Aptina’s breakthrough

low-noise CMOS imaging technology achieves near-CCD image quality

(based on signal-to-noise ratio and low-light sensitivity) while maintaining

the inherent size, cost, low power, and integration advantages of Aptina's

advanced active pixel CMOS process technology.

The on-chip image flow processor performs important image

processing such as color recovery/correction, sharpening, gamma, lens

shading correction, on-the-fly defect correction, auto white balance, and

auto exposure.

This sensor performs sophisticated processing functions including

color recovery, color correction, sharpening, programmable gamma

correction, auto black reference clamping, auto exposure, 50Hz/60Hz

flicker avoidance, lens shading correction, auto white balance (AWB),

and on-the-fly defect identification and correction.

4. Image Signal Processing

The high quality video and images relay on not only a single sensor

but also the image signal processing (ISP) technology. With decades of

experience in image processing, VIVOTEK has great experience and

technology that make cameras perform better and better.

The color reproduction technology can compose vivid colors under

various lighting environment. The technology will give a magnificent color

image in response with the sensor as well as in a low light environment.

Providing the unparalleled image quality with noise reduction

technology, VIVOTEK has the expertise of operating noise deduction by

the progress of removing the noise from the signal splendidly. The

technology brings out the fine detail for each region, also improves the

overall image quality.

The effect of the enhanced IR feature is a well-made technique by

VIVOTEK which allows more IR light pass in low light with better color

filter, well-enhanced with VIVOTEK technique for the night vision

VIVOTEK is an IT company and a leading developer of enterprise

digital video surveillance product offering unparalleled image quality,

reliable integration technology, and professional video solutions, robust,

advanced, and easy-to-use system, and qualified services, by a group

of energetic professionals working together, made it all possible.

With decades of experience in image processing, VIVOTEK

continues to design and to provide comprehensive product lines of digital

surveillance. We focus on the employing innovative technology in digital

cameras to create an outstanding implement of image quality. To have

such excellent performance out of IP8330, VIVOTEK has put a lot of

effort on capturing the sufficient light with variable speeds to provide

illuminate effectively. The IP8330 presents a huge step forward in low

light technology. It offers techniques which enable better clarity due to the

hard work on the developing of innovative technology as well as

improved resilience to definition of low light. It provides the similar quality

video at normal light rating.
