Working Principle and Processing
SUPRATON® – more than 50 years of experience and innovation in industrial production
The liquid product passing through the homoge-niser is subject to several physical processes:
Multistage hydrodynamic high-shear
High-frequency oscillating forces
Intensive micro-volume mixing
Pressure increase
High capacity due to the toothed tools, particular high shearing of the product and extreme mass transfer rates make the SUPRATON® machine a preferred equipment for the following and similar dynamic in-line processes:
Homogenising
Mixing
Dispersing
Disintegrating
Emulsifying
Dissolving
Reacting
Grinding
SUPRATON® machines are dynamic rotor-stator homogenisers with a multistage tool set. Rotor and stator consist of concentric tool rings that are radial slotted and/or drilled. The tool speed achieves 50 m/s whilst the annular shearing gap dimension is 1 mm and often considerably smaller.

Tool Geometry
Depending on the product and processing requirements an optimum tool geometry can be used as well as individual set-ups, material combinations and diverse surface finishes.
Tool Material
The latest metal alloys or composite ceramics allow maximum tool lifetime, including the pro-cessing of high abrasive and corrosive products.
Decreasing Wear

Symmetric Design
SUPRATON® homogenisers are of axial sym-metric design for using both rotation directions – important in case of wear to use both faces of the tooth for an increased tool lifetime.
Changeable Single Rings
The single ring design of the multistage tool set means easy and economic ring replacement and optimizes the dispersion efficiency by stag-gered arrangement.
Stator Injection
Rotor Flushing
Small portions of the product flow injected direct into the shearing and mixing zone to ensure optimum homogenisation.
This feature allows flushing of the backside of the rotor for the complete tool unit cleaning.
Increasing Product Fineness

Production Benefits and Applications
In-line processing by a SUPRATON® homogeniser realizes a particular economic way of production due to: High class design and materials for higher reliability and availability
Advanced engineering for exceptional demands
Continuous operation for higher productivity
Single pass process for reduced energy
Closed system for reduced product contamination and emissions
Pumping effect can remove a separate transfer pump
The SUPRATON® standard models allow operation up to: 100,000 cP product viscosity
20 mm feed particle size
200 °C (390 °F) temperature
10 bar (140 psi) pressure
