ESF Impact
The 2014-2020 ESF programme is worth £1.5bn,
including match funding.
To date, 192 operations have been approved,
resulting in:
• 199,962 participants being assisted
• 6,635 participants supported into employment
• 77,652 participants gaining qualifications
• 4,280 participants into education and training

• Aims to reduce the number of those at risk of becoming NEET (Not in Employment Education or Training) amongst 11-24 year olds
• £6.7M ESF Grant from Priority Axis 3: Youth Employment and Attainment
• Engage 4500 young people over a 7 year period
• Delivery partners are Newport City Council, Cardiff City Council, Monmouthshire Council, Vale of Glamorgan Council, Coleg Gwent, Cardiff and Vale College and Careers Wales
• 60% of young people to reduce their risk of becoming NEET
• 27% of young people to gain a full accredited qualification
• 18% of young people to enter into further education or training

Identification of young people most at risk of becoming NEET
• Attendance - Sustained improvement in the pattern of attendance of 10%, measured over a minimum 10 week period
• Attainment – Maintaining, completing or improving current level or completion of an additional qualification outside of core curriculum
• Well-being - Sustained improvement shown in well-being measured through the STAR Assessment Tool
• Behaviour - Sustained improvement in the pattern of behaviour, measured over a minimum 10 week period or Reduced number of recorded exclusions, incidents, absences or notices of concern

Work in partnership with Job Centre Plus, Careers Wales and Learn Direct to provide Work Clubs around Bridgend County.
Young people have access to 1-2-1 support and computer use during sessions.

SM – Case study Presenting issues: Previous LAC young person, homeless, substance misuse issues and poor mental health and a poor homeless bearded dragon named Chomp . Support provided: • Crisis intervention initially to ensure X and Chomp were safe.
Housing support at Civic Offices and GP appointment and Counselling referral.
• Reduce barriers to employment: Stress Management Qualification and Access to Halo Fitness Centre.
• Signposted to training – Prince trust which followed on to Employment.
• 1-2-1 Support with housing due to issues with cost of living. • Keeping in touch.
