Family Violence Law Center
Supporting Our Community
2013 ANNUAL REPORT
In July of 2013, FVLC’s Board President and long-time violence prevention advocate Allan Creighton passed away. Allan had served on our Board since 2010 and became President in early 2013. He worked throughout his life to prevent male violence against women and promote social justice. Allan’s contributions were critical not only here at FVLC, but in many communities throughout the region and country. We feel his loss tremendously.
Allan was a co-founder of the Oakland Men’s Project and San Francisco’s Men Overcoming Violence (MOVE). He worked with Battered Women’s Alternatives (now STAND! For Families Free of Violence) in Concord, CA and as Social Justice/Violence Prevention Health Educator at the University of California at Berkeley. He helped
develop violence prevention curricula and his most recent book, Helping Teens Stop Violence, Build Community and Stand for Justice, directly informs FVLC’s dating and community violence prevention work with youth in Oakland.
Allan’s legacy will continue to influence our work for justice.
The Family Violence Law Center works to end domestic violence in Alameda County.

Our Mission
• Provided crisis support to 2,738 survivors through counseling, safety planning, hotel relocation, trans-portation, and food. 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.
• Counseled 28 children and their primary care givers through 316 clinical hours of mental health services to help them heal from trauma.
• Prevented dating violence in eight Oakland middle schools—when youth are just beginning to date—reaching 1,113 middle school students through a 10 week curriculum.
• Improved the responsiveness of the courts in Alameda County through meetings with the presiding judge of the family law department and court administrators.
• Collaborated with Alameda County’s domestic violence and legal service providers to improve services for survivors.
Offered legal counsel and representation to 780 survivors, resulting in 533 restraining orders and other protections to keep them safe.
