Queen’s Birthday Holiday
13th June, 2011
Australia is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations and the official head of state is the Monarch of the Realms. This is currently Queen Elizabeth 11. She is also the head of state of many other countries and territories, including Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Canada and New Zealand. She was born on April 21, 1926, although her official birthday is celebrated on a range of dates in the different countries of the Com-monwealth of Nations. On the second Monday in June, the Queen’s Birthday Honours List is released. This contains the names of the new members of the Order of Australia and other honours issued by the Australian government or the Queen. These are generally for exceptional service to Australians, Australia or humanity as a whole. www.timeanddate.com

On 9th May we were fortunate enough to have Cassie McMahon as our Guest Speaker at Support Links. She is a facilitator for Awakening the Dreamer. This is a move-ment to bring forth an environmentally sustainable, spirit-ually fulfilling, socially just human presence on this planet. She gave a power point presentation as well as leading us through a physical workshop.
Cassie also spoke to us about her involvement in the Coal
Seam Gas blockade at Tara. By Rita:)

What is a Friend?
A friend is someone we turn to
When our spirits need a lift.
A friend is someone we treasure
For our friendship is a gift.
A friend is someone who fills our lives
With beauty, joy and grace.
And makes the whole world we live in
A better and happier place.
Missing Husband
A lady went to the police station to file a
report for her missing Husband:
Lady: I lost my Husband
Inspector: What is his height?
Lady: I never noticed
Inspector: Slim or healthy?
Lady: Not slim can be healthy
Inspector: Colour of eyes?
Lady: Never noticed
Inspector: Colour of hair?
Lady: Changes according to season
Inspector: What was he wearing?
Lady: suit/casuals I don’t remember exactly
Inspector: Was somebody with him ?????????
Lady: Yes my Labrador dog, Calvin, tied with a
golden chain, height 30 inches, healthy, blue
eyes, blackish brown hair, his left foot thumb
nail is slightly broken, he never barks, wearing
a golden belt studded with blue balls, he likes
non veg food, we eat together, we jog
together…. And the lady started crying…..

Excursion to Boonah….. By Rita Wharkuroogma Nursery
and Wetlands. This very
interesting nursery run
by Claire and Frank, sits
atop a hill overlooking
Cunningham’s Gap, on
300 acres of farmland
which has been planted
with 20,000 trees over a
30 year period.
We left the Scenic Rim
with a desire to return, as
we had only scratched
the surface of the many
attractions that this area
has to offer.
and supplied maps etc. By
then we needed a refresher so
we enjoyed a coffee in the
winter sunshine in the
courtyard of Flavours Café.
We enjoyed a leisurely stroll
up the High Street, and made
a small contribution to the
retail economy of the district.
Maynard’s Drapery Store was
a winner as we all enjoyed the
experience shopping in this
lovely ‘old world’ department
store. After lunching at one
of the many fine cafes, we
checked out the Storybook
Shop and were tempted to
stay longer in the comforta-
ble seats in the book
exchange area.
Next we drove to Roberts
Road, Roadvale to visit
This month’s Support Links
excursion was to the rural town
of Boonah, 40 minutes South
west of Ipswich. Boonah is
situated in the Scenic Rim
Region, which is definitely well
named as the mountain range
scenery is spectacular. Some of
the districts we drove through
were Purga, Peak Crossing,
Roadvale & Coulson, on which
many of the farms produce
vegetables as well as beef and
dairy cattle.
We were greeted at the entrance
to the town by the stunning
metal sculpture of a Clydesdale
horse, which celebrates the
contribution of the horse to the
district. Our first stop was the
Tourist Information Centre
where the very helpful staff
answered our many questions
Who are asylum seekers?
The terms „asylum seeker‟ and
„refugee‟ are often confused:
an asylum seeker is someone who has
fled their home and is seeking protec-
tion from another country stating that
he or she is a refugee, but whose claim
has not yet been evaluated.
In Australia, asylum seekers must
prove they are refugees before they
are granted a visa. They must prove to
government agencies that if they
return home they face persecution, im-
prisonment or harm for reasons of
race, religion, nationality, their social
group or political opinion.

How to kill Dust Mites
For asthma & allergy sufferers:-
Put a tea bag into a
spray bottle filled
with cold water, let it
sit for 3 minutes and
then lightly spray the
liquid over the mattress.
The tannins in the tea kills mites.
And no matter how clean you are, you
can get bed bugs, which live wherev-
er people do.
Keep them contained with tea-tree
oil. Rub some onto your fingers and
then wipe around the edge of the
mattress.
Use surface insecticide spray over
the edges and ends of the bed, but
not over the top of the mattress, and
not just before you‟re about to sleep
in the bed. “Spotless” by Shannon Lush
and Jennifer Fleming
