Support and Strengthening
Supporting and Strengthening at risk youth (9 – 14 years) who have, or are
at risk, disengaging from learning, and/or with behavioural management
strategies.

Support and Strengthen children and young people, aged 9 to 14 years,
who are displaying anti-social behaviour, and/or disengaged, or at significant risk of disengaging, from
learning.
What do we do?•5 to 6 students, referred by their schools, attend 1 x weekly activity over a semester.
•Students identify personal objective to be achieved through attendance, with weekly goals.
•Objective & goal linked specifically with any on going support at their schools.
•Weekly progress reports communicated between program and the students schools.
•Activities are based upon life skills, conflict resolution, resilience, emotional intelligence, social competencies, and team work.
•Students are assessed at the end of the semester and exited – they can be re-entered in the following semester.
REFERRAL CRITERIA
Be Age between 9 – 14 years
Disengaged, or at risk of, from learning.
Exhibiting Challenging Behaviours
School has already engaged support strategies.
Referred by agency, group, or school through the Education Queensland Regional Office or Townsville
PCYC.
WHAT DOES THE PROGRAM ACHIEVE
• Gives Students an opportunity to gain confidence in utilising behavioural management strategies.
• Improve relations between police and at risk youth.
• Support the community in addressing needs of young people.
