caTcon airground Technologies

CATCON airground technologies’ phi-losophy is to find compellingly simple

and cost-effective technical solutions. The German company develops, manufac-tures and services special vehicles for air-craft ground handling and related areas. CATCON’s product range includes con-veyor belts, trailers, special models and the award-winning SideCat.

Since 2002, a team of specialists at CATCON has been developing the idea of an innovative highlifter for aircraft. The unique aspect of the SideCat highlifter is its ability to lift from zero to over eight meters without pause, time-consuming stabilising measures or changing driver position.

The simple but revolutionary idea behind the SideCat is particularly effec-tive with the new giant of the sky, the A380. Being side-mounted, the SideCat

easily reaches the necessary height of over eight meters and without auxiliary aids can access the upper deck door unfavourably positioned over the wings. “At this point in time, we are the only pro-vider who can overcome this challenge without auxiliary constructions,” explains CATCON Managing Director Dieter Wertheim.

This all-rounder is versatile too: it can be used for catering purposes or for transporting passengers in wheelchairs and VIPs who need to access the aircraft separately from the other travellers. The SideCat can be used as a work platform: with its waste compactor it becomes a waste disposal vehicle and with its stair extension it can deliver passengers to the A380 upper deck.

When Airbus’s giant paid its first visit to an international passenger airport in Frankfurt, the SideCat highlifter was there to greet it. Previously subject to extensive testing from the Airbus team, the Side-Cat proved its worth and on this occasion showed how perfectly suited it is for han-dling the A380.

The new vehicle’s flexibility has not only attracted the attention of airports, handling agents, catering companies and maintenance service providers, but also of the German Innovation Award jury, who awarded the prize to CATCON.

CEOTRONICS

Worldwide, over 200 airlines, airports and ground handling service provid-

ers rely on products from CeoTronics. The broad product range contains systems for ramp handling, push back, de-icing, cock-pit communication and airplane mainte-nance where the secure transmission of every single word is essential.

CT-DECT GateCom offers wireless dig-ital full-duplex communication for several people during aircraft handling and push-back/ground handling and is regarded as revolutionary, just using an interface (case or small bag) connected to the intercom.

CT-GroundCom headsets are con-nected by cable to the aircraft intercom system and guarantee crystal-clear com-munication with the cockpit.

CeoTronics headset shells provide excellent noise protection. When worn with ear plugs they protect the ears against irreparable noise damage and, even in a loud environment, communica-tion is crystal clear.

The Ambient Sound Reception (ASR) feature in CeoTronics Headsets provides the user with the ability to adjust ambient sound to a comfortable level. Full hearing protection is afforded to sound levels of approximately 110 dB(A). The ASR sys-tem controls harmful noise levels, over 85 dB(A), by attenuating the noise to safe levels at the internal speaker.

Whether it’s 0°F (-20°C) in winter or up to 150°F (+70°C) in the hottest desert, sun, rain or snow; CeoTronics products are designed and constructed in accord-ance with these requirements.

All cables are produced to CeoTron-ics´ unsurpassed quality standards with regard to breakage and RF distortions.

During testing, the cables are powered under tension of 500g/1.1lb and perform 25 bends per minute in an angle of +/- 90°. The coiled cables of the CT-Ground-Com Headsets are stretched to the maximum of their standard length. The company guarantees 60,000 stretches without cable breakage and that the cable will always retain its original position and shape. (
