Celebrating the last day of Term 3 with some fun!
This Friday not only are we having an ‘odd sock and crazy tie day’ to raise
funds for the SRC, we are also having a ‘Teddy Bears Picnic’ lunch. Students
are invited to bring a teddy bear to school. We will spread picnic rugs and
students can enjoy eating their lunch with their furry friends as well as their
classmates.
Mural
What a difference Austin’s (Nitsua) amazing paintings have made to our new
COLA area. The students were fascinated as they watched the creative
process and the evolution of the artworks over several days. It is a very
meaningful artwork as it represents the escarpment and incorporates an
image (taken from an old photograph) of the original figtree after which our
suburb is named. The figtree is painted in greyscale to represent that it is from
the past and contrasts with the vibrant background and
foreground colours, representing the present and future.
Student Representative Council
Our new SRC members for Semester 2 have settled very well into their roles
and are doing a wonderful job. Not only are they excellent role models for
their classmates but their initiatives such as ‘Five Cent Friday’ are proving very
successful. They feature in this newsletter proudly wearing their badges.
Child Safety Concern
Last week a young child was left unattended in a car which had its ignition
running, in the staff carpark. The parent was not in sight as they were
collecting another child. Although it can be tiring and time consuming to take
your child with you to collect siblings, at no time should a child be left
unsupervised in a car. Please also remember that parents are not to park in
the staff carpark.
Online Enrolment System
We are excited to announce the new Online Enrolment System which is now
available.
The Online Enrolment System is designed to provide flexibility for our parents to
submit an enrolment application online and at the time that best suits you.
The application can be accessed on all browsers and mobile devices
including iOS and Android.
The online application process is currently restricted to:
* Enrolments into local schools only
* Children who are Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens or
permanent residents
* Children who live in NSW.
A paper copy is available for collection from the front office or can be
downloaded from the Department’s going to a public school site.
Further information about online enrolment can be found on our website
here.
If you have already completed an application form for Kindergarten 2021 you
do not need to fill in another enrolment form.

Bike Riding Issues
Last week the school was contacted by a concerned parent regarding
some of our students riding unsafely on the roads around the school. These
students were riding without helmets and in the middle of the road.
Although the department encourages riding as one way to be physically
active, sometimes the busy roads and conditions around the outside of a
school can impact student safety.
Riding may not be the safest option for the pedestrians or the rider
particularly if there is a lack of footpaths or congested roads, as is the
situation around our school.
With the holidays fast approaching it is an opportune time to review bike
safety with your child. If you allow them to ride, please remind them to follow
bicycle road rules including:
ride to the left on footpaths
give pedestrians right of way on footpaths
watch out for cars entering or leaving driveways
wear a correctly fitted bicycle helmet – it’s the law
ensure that the bike is roadworthy
wear bright-coloured clothing so other road users can see them
once on school grounds bikes can walked but not ridden
Primary aged students are safest when they are supervised by an
adult when riding a bike and children should be accompanied by an adult
until they are at least 10 years old. Children under 16 can now ride on the
footpath unless there are signs prohibiting cycling.
Unfortunately the Bike Safety programs which our students have attended in
the past are not being offered at the moment due to COVID 19 restrictions.

Mrs Redfern is on leave this week and for the first week of Term 4.
I would like to send my best wishes to all of our families for a happy and
relaxing holiday. Thank you to all the parents and carers, students and our
school community for your continuing support during this uncertain time. We
look forward to the beginning of Term 4 with, hopefully, fewer restrictions.
Stay safe.
Kind regards,
Dee Wyman

REMINDER
This Friday 25th September we will be having an “ODD SOCK & TIE” day.
Wear some fancy socks (make sure they are odd) and borrow a bright
coloured tie or even a bow tie. Wear your sport uniform as usual and add
a bit of CRAZINESS. We can’t wait to see your style.
Don’t forget to bring a gold coin donation so as we can get closer to our
‘5 cent Friday’ target of $1,000.00.

Teddy Bears’ Picnic on Friday September 25th
This Friday, on the last day of Term 3, all students are welcome to bring a teddy bear to
join them for lunch. On this day, we also have a whole school event, “Odd Sock and Tie
Day” to celebrate the terrific term.
Our lost property basket is overflowing.
Can you please ask your children to check lost property, which is located
outside the front office, before Thursday as anything unlabelled will be
donated to the second hand uniform pool.
