A 3D ANIMATED SHORT

Page 2: SUPERBOYS

A hustle and bustle city famous for its bridges that connect to several buildings.

Setting

Page 3: SUPERBOYS

Age: 11A shy, down to earth kind of boy. His parents argue constantly (everyday, from dawn ‘til dusk). Due to their constant bickering, he is usually left unattended… ignored. Our story begins with him running from all the cacophony back home.

Characters: Terry

Page 4: SUPERBOYS

Age: 8A boy obsessed about superheroes and comic books. Let’s his imagination get the better of him sometimes. Hyperactive and won’t miss a chance to prove to the world that he’d make an epic hero he grows up.

Characters: Brian

Page 5: SUPERBOYS

Terry’s parents are fighting like they always do, they don’t pay attention to him at all. Tension fills the household. It’s suffocating. Terry can’t handle it and leaves home for a while.

Terry finds himself at the park and meets Brian, a boy with a bright red cape. He discover the joy of reading comic books and superheroes. Ever since, Terry begins to flee the “discomforts”

of home and meets up with Brian. (Insert friendship montage) They become the best of friends. Brian learns that Terry and his parents aren’t on good terms. Brian is worried for him. He presses that it isn’t

right to feel so alone in your own home. Endless arguing never solves anything and running away from these problems doesn’t help either… Heck, it can make things worse! But Terry refuses to do so. So he comes up with a plan: get Terry a cape too. (“Because capes are what give you strength! Everybody knows that!”) Terry just can’t say no it his best pal. However, he still doesn’t like the idea of going home.

As the two boys go to the store to buy it, they run into bullies picking on a little girl with a vial. Brian being the self-proclaimed hero that he is attempts to save her. Terry tries to stop him from doing anything rash but that fails. With all the ruckus the vial falls to the ground and shatters releasing a toxin in the air. Brian inhales too much of it and has an asthma attack.

Brian is now at the hospital and has to leave the city. Terry starts to blame himself. He starts to bawl. Brian comforts him by telling Terry that even heroes have to fall doing what’s right but that doesn’t mean they stop doing good. As a farewell gift, Brian gives his own cape to Terry. “We couldn’t get you a cape so take mine. I hope you…”

Terry now stricken with guilt and sadness, finally returns home only to find his parents STILL fighting. Enraged, Terry starts yelling at the top of his lungs blaming them for all he had gone though and falls to his knees clinging onto Brian’s cape. “If it weren’t for all this fighting and YOU never paying attention to me, I-- I’d have never met him! And he wouldn’t be sick!” Parents shocked, they stand still. Realizing how much in pain he is, Terry’s parents settle their grudges against each other to tend to their boy. -SENTIMENTAL HUG HERE.-

Peace and quiet returns to Terry’s household. His parents bicker a bit but not as much as they used to… All is good. But how is Brian? Terry looks up to the golden sky. Elsewhere, Brian is in a comfortable hospital bed reading his favourite comic book issues. He’s alright.

THE END.

Slice of life

Not officially considered a genre by many but is relevant to this project.

Slice of life is usually referred to a genre of manga and anime.

“Life, observed and examined. A cast of characters go about their daily lives, making observations and being themselves. School is perhaps the most common setting for these kinds of series, especially in animation. Coming of age is often a major part of their stories.”(http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SliceOfLife)

A good example of Slice of Life is Hourou Musuko (Transient Son/Wandering Son)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F378ZrEy8dI

Using open-source software such as Blender leaves the staff with more room to concentrate on the quality of the work rather than worrying about budget costs.

Although 2D would also be an appropriate medium for this project, 3D allows more flexibility in case there are changes to be made in the animation and/or staging of a scene.

The target audience is primarily for kids and the fact that a film is in 3D already attracts a good number of viewers.

In a few sequences, the scenes in the film begin to distort from reality and become what the main characters (Terry and Brian) imagine it look like.E.g.: The park becomes HQ. Brian soaring through the golden sky.

Why in 3D?
