What You'll Need:-Hula Hoops or sidewalk chalk
What to Do:Use the patterns pictured here to helpguide the layout of hoops for this obstaclecourse-style activity. Place the “tires”(hula hoops) as shown and then haveyour child maneuver through them asdirected in the instructions below.
1 - Jump with two feet with one footlanding in each tire. Next, try one foot at atime as if he is running but making sure tohit every tire along the way.
Try some tire runs to get kids' heart rates upand muscles working hard!
2 - Jump with two feet together into each hoop. Then try hopping onone foot in each hoop.
3 - Try running through the hoops with one foot in each one.
4 - This one is like classic hopscotch!
TIRE RUN
LINE TAG
The perfect way to keep everyone entertainedin the driveway on a sunny afternoon!
What You'll Need:-Sidewalk Chalk-An open paved space to play
What to Do:Use the image to draw a large gameboard on the pavement (the boardshould take up all or most of adriveway). One child is “it” and the otherchildren have to try to stay awayfrom him, but EVERYONE has tokeep their feet on the lines at alltimes, balancing and walking quickly.
The only way you're allowed off of the lines is if you step onto one ofthe cirlces – the “Safety Zones”. But, you can’t just stand there! Tostay safe, you have to do the following on each "Safety Zone":-On the circle with two feet: jump up and down repeatedly.-On the circle with one foot: balance on one foot.-On the circle with two hands: put your hands down on the groundand do donkey kicks (kick both feet up into the air behind you)repeatedly.
CLASSICNEIGHBORHOOD GAMES
When it comes to group activities for kids, sometimes the classics are still the best!
1 – KICK THE CANPlace an empty soda can in an open space. One child is “it.” The other children run andhide while the child counts to 30. The child who is “it” has to try to find the others and ifthey are found, they have to go to a designated “jail” area and wait. If another child who ishiding can run to and kick the can without being tagged by the child who is “it”, all of thechildren in jail are free to run away and hide again!
2 – GHOSTS IN THE GRAVEYARDOne child is designated as the “ghost” and runs to hide while all of the other childrengather at a designated “home base” and count to 30. Then everyone scatters to find theghost. When a player spots the ghost, they yell out “ghost in the graveyard” and everyoneattempts to make it back to base safely without being tagged by the ghost. Whoever istagged first is the next ghost!
3 – FLASHLIGHT TAGThis variation of tag is played at night! Instead of being tagged by the touch of a hand, the“it” player tags by shining a flashlight beam on the other players.
4 – COPS AND ROBBERSKids are divided into two equal teams, the cops and the robbers. The cops chase therobbers in hopes of tagging them and putting them all in jail! A robber can free a prisonerby tagging him as long as he avoids getting tagged himself. The game ends once all ofthe robbers are in jail.
5 – CAPTURE THE FLAGTwo teams each have a flag. The object is to capture the other team’s flag and bring itback to your own base. If you tag an enemy player, he is out of the game! Or you canplay the version where the enemy player is frozen in place if he gets tagged until touchedby one of his own team members to be released.
FIRECRACKER TAG
A good old fashioned game of tag is always a hitand great for promoting balance, endurance,
coordination, and more!
What You'll Need:-Red, white and blue balloons-String
What to Do:Blow up a balloon for each child and tie it to a string. Tie the loose end of the string to each child’s ankleso that every child has a balloon attached to him.
On the count of three, everyone runs aroundattempting to “tag” a friend by stomping on his balloonand popping it, making a sound like a firecracker! The last child to have an unpopped balloon WINS!
10 FUN PICNIC BLANKETGAMES
Some fun and unusual activities for kids that will turnthat well-loved blanket into more than just something
to sit on!
1 - Make a human BURRITO! Have the child lie down on the very edge of the blanket andhave her hold onto the edge with her inside arm. Roll her up or have her roll on her own.Can she stand up once she’s wrapped up tight? Can she jump and keep her balance?
2 - Create a TENT! Grab a few chairs or find a tree branch that’s low to the ground. Drape the picnic blanket up and create a shady spot for reading books or playing games. 3 - Create a PARACHUTE! Everyone grab an edge or a corner and raise it high, or holdit down low. Shake it fast and shake it slow. Can you find some pinecones to shakearound on that parachute?
4 - Use the blanket as a HOMEBASE for tag! Spread it out wide to make it easier or fold itup as small for more of a challenge and let them run loose!
5 - Make it a SWING! This one works best if there are two adults on hand. Have yourchild lie down in the center of the blanket and have each adult grab two corners. Lift thekiddo up and gently swing the blanket back and forth.
6 - Roll it up and use it as a JUMP ROPE!
7. Have one child sit on the blanket while the others pull him around on his own personalROLLER COASTER RIDE!
8. LIMBO! How low you can go?!
9. Play TUG OF WAR!
10. BECOME A SUPERHERO! Drape the blanket over your kiddo’s shoulders and tie aloose knot in front. Because everything’s more fun when you’re wearing a cape!

-When the "it" player is ready, he calls out the name of one ofthe other players and then kicks the ball.
-The person whose name was called has to run to get the balland then must try to get the person that kicked it out by tagginghim or throwing the ball at him before he can make it back tothe line of children.
