Mopars of Brevard, Inc.
Super Bee Lines ~May, 2017
FROM THE
PRESIDENT’S Driveway
April was a quiet month. Penny, Jon Warner and I attended the FMA working meeting in Belleview on 22 April. We learned that the contract has now been signed with the Central Florida Agriculture center just 1.7 miles northeast of the Garlits Museum. This new venue is a huge change from the last 29 years of Garlits shows. They have always been held in the Garlits backyard before, but each year the show gets bigger and the back yard gets smaller. This
year the FMA will have 125 acres of land available for the show. The April Cruise-In was a great success. The weather was perfect. There were more than 200 cars in attendance. We also had a special visitor. Doris Heuer was there to choose a car to receive the Captain Keith Heuer Memorial plaque from the MOB. There’s more about the cruise in this Newsletter. The Celebration of Cars was supposedly that last time that the Wickham Pavillion will be used. The MOB is gonna miss that location. Pete has been actively pursuing another location for Super Swap XIX and has narrowed the search down to one location which is within the Wickham Park. As soon as we have a signed contract, we can begin preparation for Super Swap XIX.

Joke of the Day By Penny
Anderson A tired homemaker opened the front door of her home to find a young minister from the neighborhood who said, “I’m collecting donations for the new children’s home we’re building. I hope you’ll give what you can.” “Sure,” said the beleaguered woman. “I’ll give you two boys, two girls, or one of each.”

April Cruisin’ For Charity By Pete Stasio It was a great night at Five Guy’s cruise in. There were 200+ cars that showed up. We gave away a special plaque for Capt. Keith Heuer which Doris, his wife, picked out; a car that he would have chosen himself which was a
maroon 1940 Ford coupe owned by Robert Vanhorn. The 1st place winner for Five Guys was Wayne Couper with a 1928 street rod. 2nd place Five Guy’s winner was Mike and Maggie Shannon with a 2008 Corvette. The Callagy Best Tire and Wheel Set up was won by Eric Stromme with a 1970 Chevy Chevelle. They were all beautiful cars. The 50/50 was $180.00 to Al Bourgeois. I would like to thank all the MOB members who came out and made this cruise in another success; without these members, I couldn’t have done it. THANK YOU EVERYONE. If the next cruise in is the same turn out, we are going to need more members to help park cars and to keep track of where the available spaces are, so PLEASE come out and join us.
Additionally….. Wanted “old”
car type magazines for the cruise in.. If you have some for recycling purposes, I would appreciate them. Thanks!

Keeping You Informed By
Penny Anderson Dodge….bringing the “Old” back to “New” By now everyone knows that Dodge is bringing the Demon back to life in 2018. Well, little did I know the Dodge Rampage (1982-1984) ever existed let alone is supposedly being brought back to life again.
1984 Dodge Rampage
How soon, don’t know. Speculation has it being introduced later this year. Being interested in when exactly, I called Gator Chrysler and spoke to Tom O’Neill. They have no knowledge of it being available….at least for now. So look for an update in the future.

Getting Down the Road Straight By Jon Warner In the October 2005 issue of Mopar Action, the “Project Bold Beeper, Installment #18”, they talked about alignment of their ’69 Road Runner. In this article they said that the old suspension geometry was designed 45 years ago. It was also designed and the alignment specs were designed for easy driving (can you say Granny?). However, it’s now 2017 and we don’t drive like Granny and we have low-profile steel-belted radials, a tire design that wasn’ t around when the ’62-’72 B-Body /’70-’74 E Body suspension and steering was penned in 1959-’60. So what do we do? Because of the radial tires and the better roads, faster interstate driving, etc., we need a bit more aggressive alignment on our older cars. To help the readers, they came up with a “Skosh Chart”. These are the recommended alignment specs for different driving styles. If you take your car to a standard “slap and dash” alignment shop, they may just put everything on the wheels and put your cars’ year and body type in the computer and set up the factory specs. Just what you don’t want, instead give them a copy of the following chart and tell them to use the specs you’ve indicated. You may have to argue with them a few minutes; maybe a small “pre-tip” of a folded Jackson pressed into sweaty, greasy palm will do the trick. If they still won’t do the alignment to your specs, drive away, call around and take it to a “professional” shop. Also, once the angles are where you want them, be sure to torque the cam nuts. The factory spec has always been 65 ft-lbs; but that’s marginal, sometimes allowing the cams to slip or turn on a severe bump. Since these are (as long as you have OEM Mopar parts) ½” SAE hardened bolts, just like a good lug stud, the magazine recommends 85 ft-lb.
SKOSH CHART
Driving Style Camber Caster Toe-In Granny -.25 +1.5 1/16 to 1/8” Typ. Perf. Street -.5 +2.5 1/16 to 1/8” Max Perf. Street - .75 to -1.0 +2.5 to +3.5 1/16 to 1/8” Track/Auto X -2.0 to -3.0 +3.0 to +4.0 0 to 1/16”** Drag Racing* 0 +1.5 to +2.0 0 to 1/16” All numbers in Camber and Caster on the above chart are degrees. My computer doesn’t have a degree symbol. These specs are for all A, B, E, and R body cars, all years. “Bent T-Bar cars” (F, J and M body) need lots more caster, as much as 5 degrees.
*For drag racing, ,minimum rolling resistance is the goal. Align front end with the car jacked to typical “down the track” suspension height.
**Some road racers and autocrosses prefer some toe-out.
