Bridging some difficulties• Complex infrastructure• Resistance of users to self help• Diversity of our users and the level of technical competency. • To bridge these problems we offer the following:

– Access to information via SAS E.G.

– Access to information via SAS InfoMaps through EXCEL (AMO)

– Access to pre-build standardized reports in WRV/WRS built on SAS InfoMaps

– Access to pre-built Reports using Stored Process via the Portal / Excel & SAS E.G.

– Access to dashboards built using Custom Built Portlets via the Portal.

Areas for improvement• Further explore ways of making information easier to interpret and

to access.• New ways of getting the information must be found, for instance a

good search engine and more visualization tools. (FAQ linked to reports)

• Improved communication of EDW updates, namely when data has been updated

• More support for the BI Champions, i.e. people that they can talk to when they are stuck.

• More BI Champion workshops (at least every 6 months) to share information, get some training and talk to the ICT Team.

Conclusion• Implementing a Self service BI platform in the EDW is

not an easy task. • Collaboration, training and a great deal of planning.• Defining a common vision of the end-result is paramount

to the success of the solution.• The benefits of self-service are substantial and is a true

empowerment of staff. • The need for intuitive data models are  amplified and the

demand for ad-hoc information reduced when users “do it themselves”!
