All who ventured up to Monduran Dam spent a lot of time on the water trying to catch a barra, but
they were not playing the game as usual. We had 22 members and 1 visitor at Monduran camping,
it was one of our best turnouts for an away competition that we have had. Even though there were
no barra, there were a lot of catfish, and the only bass that were caught was below the dam wall
which didn't count in our comp. Our Xmas party is on the 14th December, so come along and have
a great feed and join in on the activities.
We need all of the Xmas raffle tickets in by our December club meeting, so try and
sell as many as you can, because it all goes to the club and then back to the
members.
The raffles will be drawn at the Xmas Party.
Cheers Vince.
Unfortunately I didn’t make it on the trip to Monduran, the first one I have missed out on for a
while. However I understand that it was somewhat “Groundhog Day” with reports of stinking hot
weather and no Barra to be seen. The “Lake Misery”/“Lake of a Thousand Casts” lived up to its
name for another year it seems. Despite the fishing results, reports are that as always it was a
great trip with everyone having a good time?
This month is a busy one on our calendar with the Club meeting, our S n D Lawn & Garden Care
Inshore/Offshore competition and Christmas party. See you all on Tuesday at the meeting for a
rundown on the competition. I wish a merry Christmas to all those who I don’t see before.
Cheers
Chris.

Round the Circle is a monthly collection of snippets of interest / information concerning the club. Most is
collected at the “Sewing Circle” held at Wayne and Barb’s Fishing World on Friday mornings – hence the
name. Contribute items to Tony Fleming
Latest spanning crabbing trip on November 18th proved to be very poor as the current was
raging and the ocean very sloppy resulting in failed sea sickness tablets. Got a very sore neck
looking at the horizon and pulling up pots. Luckily it is now the closed season and I can just hug
gum trees and feel ok.
• Reports of mangrove jack being caught in the Mooloolah River are coming in, 2 around 40cm mark
on soft plastics.
• Fishing World’s latest specials catalogue available at the shop or by email if requested. See some of
the great specials in this December newsletter.
Some of the fish related highlights of a recent trip to Singapore and Vietnam were
In Singapore
• An aquarium in a seafood restaurant containing a barramundi cod, an undersized coral trout and an
undersized barramundi. The barra was probably the product of aquaculture. I hope the other two had not
been sent from here.
• Restaurants selling chilli mud crabs. They were mostly swimmers – completely empty.
• A seafood buffet at a large international resort served platters of spanner crabs some of which were 50 –60
mm across the body. How could you possibly eat them? It’s hard enough to get the flesh out of a legal
specimen.
In Vietnam
• In a floating village in Halong Bay there were net holding pens to keep their catch alive. Most were sea bass.
One contained a good quality red emperor.
• A tray of red bullseyes in a market in Da Nang (Wayne has a picture of one at the shop that was caught
locally recently. It was sent to him to help to identify it. Most members said they had never seen one before.
They were reasonably common in Deception Bay years ago.)
Good quality Spanish mackerel were common in the same market.
Latest News – Round the Circle - Tony Fleming
Tony’s new fishing mate who has just
joined the club. Notice he is already
sharing his club cap.

Bob Jane Barra Bash question time?
Who caught what and where or what really happened each night? Vinnie may have some answers.
A little birdie tells me that Anthony is a very keen fisherman and only has the very best of gear but what really
happened up at Lake Monduran. Who can tell the sewing circle members the real story? Hopefully Anthony can if he
is well enough after some surgery at the new Kawana hospital.
