Please continue on page 8 Veteran’s Memorial Day Ceremony As we do each year here at Sun- nymead Ranch, we will be cel- ebrating this year’s Memorial Day ceremonies on Saturday, May 27, 2017, with our annual Memorial Day observance. Taking place at the Veterans Garden of Honor, and starting at 11 am, we expect to see our many veteran-families attending, as we honor those who have served our country and in doing so, made the ultimate sacri- fice for our nations’ freedom. A reverent and respectful ceremony that includes our Canyon Springs ROTC color-guard, as well as our bag-piper and bugle- player will provide the pomp and circumstance deserved for this occasion, as well as the releasing of the 21-Dove Salute we initi- ated a couple of years ago. A very special display of remembrance to those fallen heroes in our military. And as always, complimentary refreshments will be served imme- diately following the ceremonies. Again, if you have any questions, just give Pam Lowell a ‘reach-out’ at her e-mail address below. The entire Veterans Committee looks forwards to seeing all of you then, and we’ll keep you posted on our progress as we get closer to Memorial Day. Remember that this is a FREE event, and one that celebrates all of those Veterans who will never be forgotten. If you’d like more information regarding the ceremonies, just call the office at: 951-924-2249, and they will answer any questions regarding the event. Please come join us on this very Special day. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Info provided by: Pam Lowell, Chairperson Veteran’s Committee Concerts by the Lake Returns Last year we told you that it had been a lot of years since we’d hosted a concert here on the Clubhouse grounds. We also reminded you that you’d have to go back to the old days of when our illustrious and past Board Director J.S. Ross was responsible for many of our activities, to remem- ber the last time we held concerts here. Well, that all changed last year, when we brought back our Concerts by the Lake concert series, and by the turnout we had, make no mistake, it was a bona-fide success! So, if we’re lucky (and we will be) we’re going to have another success on our hands, because we plan on holding our next Concerts by the Lake again, next month, on Friday evening, June 16th , 2017, and on the beautiful and ma- ture grassy knolls around the Clubhouse and boat-dock and playground area, the Activities committee is preparing to host you all again with an evening of sweet music to enjoy with your family and friends. And, like last year’s revival of our Concerts, everyone was invited to BYOF (Bring Your Own Foodies), and we will supply all the water, popcorn, and soft drinks. And like last year, many attendees brought picnic fixin’s, along with their own favorite beverages, and that’s fine with us. We just want everyone to enjoy the music under the summer eve- ning sky, along side the lake, and be as comfortable as pos- sible in doing so. So, all you music-lovers here at Sunnymead Ranch, mark your calendars for the evening of June 16th, when our next Concerts by the Lake will return back here. The committee is still working on putting together a “musi- cal menu” that will be sure to satisfy the tastes of all those attending, and will be announcing in the coming weeks what the evening’s lineup will look like. So, stay tuned to upcoming information, as it’s posted here in the RoundUp, as well as at the Clubhouse, on all the details as they are developed, and make sure to keep the evening of June 16th open for your enjoyment here on the Clubhouse grounds. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Information provided by: Activities Committee CAMP NIGHT WEEKEND IS HERE THIS MONTH. I am including some very important articles in this section. They are of vital interest to all residents in the Sunnymead Ranch community. Please take a moment to review these important items.

Sunnymead Ranch PCA has a Facebook PagePlease log into www.mysunnymead.com and hit the Facebook icon on the home page. This will take you to our Sunnymead Ranch PCA Facebook Page. Please like the page. We will update information on our page so that you can see

And a warm “Hi” to all of the residents of Sunnymead Ranch. This month’s Message will be short and simple.

To start, our 2017 election has finally been resolved, with the third seat on the Board of Directors being filled by the winner of our first-ever run-off election, none other than

long-time Sunnymead Ranch resident, Mrs. Bernice Robinson.

And, this wasn’t an easy election to decide on who the winner was going to be, with only 12 votes (simply amazing) separating the two remaining contestants who were vigorously competing for the seat on the board, Mrs. Robinson and long-time former board member, Mary Cole. In the end, the voters ultimately spoke, and the winner was announced at our adjourned Annual Meeting held this past April 17, 2017.

With the departure of Mary Cole from the board, we will also be losing a long-time experienced board member who has faithfully and unselfishly served our community for too many years now to count. Just let it suffice to say that she brought a lot of quiet dignity to the board, and so many times served as the silent but relenting conscious of the board, especially when it came to making tough decisions in her role as a board member. There is absolutely no doubt that she will be missed. But, the entire board also believes that Mary is well-deserved of a “break” from her years of service supporting the efforts to constantly improve the quality-of-life for all of us here, and we all hope she enjoys her “break”, knowing that there will always be another opportunity to serve, if and when she’s ready.

In the meantime, we are fortunate in welcoming to our board an individual with a vast amount of management and administrative skills, mostly earned though her countless years as a Registered Nurse, as well as an equally countless number of years serving as a union representative for nurses throughout the great state of California, before retiring several years ago. She brings to our board her wealth of representative experience, along with a healthy dose of maturity and just plain ol’ common sense, to the table, as our newest board member, and that can only be a “good thing” for all of us here in the Ranch.

And so, as we bid a fond farewell to our dear Mary, we are equally excited to be welcoming, in her place, Mrs. Bernice Robinson, as our newest member to the Board of Directors for Sunnymead Ranch. Please join us in our welcome, and when you see her around and about the Ranch, be sure to say “hello” and let her know that you wish her well.

Also, we wanted to let you all know that the progress on the North Cove project (the removal of the built-up debris coming into the lake from the discharge tube located there) has been

BOARD MESSAGEstalled temporarily, due to the speed of the appropriate city of Moreno Valley departments involved in giving the “go-ahead” on the project, having not yet completed the required process to move forward with their approval yet. We’re ready on our end, but can’t make any further moves until the city signs off on it. We’ll keep you posted.

And finally for this month, we hope you’re noticing the landscape changes taking place along Sunnymead Ranch Parkway, especially going from Village Road east and up the Parkway to Perris Blvd. Our landscaping contractors, Environmental Concepts Landscape Management, Inc, has been working hard in swapping-out the very water-intense turf with much more drought-tolerant vegetation, in an effort to better manage and contain the cost of our precious water resources here in the Ranch. They’re not done yet, but when completed, we expect that the legendary beauty of our lush common-area shrubs, vegetation, trees, and decorative plantings, will once again display one of the primary reasons that so many potential residents are attracted to wanting to buy here and call the Ranch their home forever. We’ll continue to keep you posted on the progress here as well.

With that, this is as good a time as any to wish everyone here a glorious Memorial Day celebration this month, and if you have the time, why not come out and join us on Saturday morning, May 27, 2017 at the Veteran’s Garden of Honor, as we once again, celebrate those Veterans who served our country and made the ultimate sacrifice for her.

In the meantime, stay safe, Everyone, and ENJOY the summer. And, as always, we Thank You, for your continued support and confidence.

Warmest Regards, Robert Riddick, CMCAPresident, Board of Directors

THE MANAGER’S MOMENTwhat is going on in Sunnymead Ranch. We are very excited about this upgrade.

Boat and Pool Monitor Schedules for Memorial Day WeekendThe Boat House will be open Memorial Day Weekend starting Saturday, May 27TH through Monday, 29TH for your enjoyment. The Board House hours will be 7:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M., weather permitting. The pool monitor will be on duty from 10:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. on those days as well. Both the boat and pool monitors are tasked with making sure that everyone obeys the Rules and Regulations in the common area and will also be asking residents to see their access cards. Please be courteous and show your card when asked.

Pet Droppings in the CommunityYour neighbors are asking all pet owners to please be very courteous and pick up all pet droppings from your pets as you walk them through the Association’s neighborhoods. Several complaints have come our way regarding this issue. It is so important to keep the neighborhoods looking good and show kindness to everyone else who are walking through our beautiful community. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.

Entry through the Pedestrian Gate on Sunnymead Ranch ParkwayThe Pedestrian gate near the Veteran’s Garden requires an access card for entry. It is unable to be opened with a key. You may actually damage your key if you use it on the Pedestrian Gate on Sunnymead Ranch Parkway.

Association’s Tree Trim PolicyThe Board of Directors has approved and adopted the following policy for tree trimming and removal of common area trees:

The Association has trees which were planted in the early years and, therefore, have come to be very mature and beautiful. The Association will not be removing any of these trees unless they are diseased or pose a safety hazard to the community.

The Association has the trimming of all of the trees in the common area on a three (3) year tree trimming rotation where all trees are trimmed at least once in three (3) years beginning in the fall. Several varieties of trees may be trimmed every year. Unless a tree poses a safety hazard to a residence, the tree will not be trimmed until its time in the tree trimming rotation. This is how the Association is able to keep the trees looking great and within the Association’s budget as there are additional charges to the Association when a tree trimmer comes out with his heavy equipment and trims outside the tree trimming rotation.

The Association will assess requests for tree trimming if branches that are significantly hanging over into the yard of a residence. This will be reviewed by the Board on a case by case basis.

Things Your Burglar Won’t Tell You (Part II)This is actually a great list filled with some tips that you may have never thought of, so we are passing this along for your review. It is a lengthy list so I will put a few in each of the upcoming newsletters:

Things your burglar won’t tell you:• If decorative glass is part of your front entrance, don’t let

your alarm company install the control pad where I can see if it is set. That makes it too easy.

• A good security company alarms the window over the sink. And the windows on the second floor, which often access the master bedroom...and your jewelry. It’s not a bad idea to put motion detectors up there too.

• It’s raining, you’re fumbling with your umbrella and you forget to lock your door – understandable. But understand this: I don’t take a day off because of bad weather.

• I always knock first. If you answer, I’ll ask for directions somewhere or offer to clean your gutters. (Don’t take me up on it!).

• Do you really think I won’t look in your sock drawer? I always check dresser drawers, the bedside table, and the medicine cabinet…

To be continued again

Do Not Feed the Duck SignsWe have had several “Do Not Feed the Ducks” signs made and we will be installing them in the signs that describe the fish along the lake. It is important to know that it is very damaging to the ducks to feed them. Bread is not good for their systems. They are content with what they eat from the grass and the lake.

Pigeon Pass Closure Lennar Homes will be installing some required drainage on Pigeon Pass. Pigeon Pass will be closed from Old Lake to Sunnymead Ranch Parkway from June 12th through August 10th while school is out.

Association Approved House ColorsThe Board has approved a set of house colors which will be considered pre-approved when submitting an Architectural Application for the painting of your home. There still needs to be an application submitted; however, with the approved colors you will be more apt to have the application approved quickly. If you would still like other colors to be reviewed; the committee will make their decisions on other colors on a case by case basis.

PROTECTING YOURSELF FROM MAILBOX VANDALISM:

Rural area mailboxes are vulnerable to vandalism because they are usually isolated, located on public thoroughfares, and fre-quently not visible to the box owners from their homes. City residential mailboxes are vandalized to a lesser degree.

Mailboxes are considered federal property, and federal law (Title 18, United States Code, Section 1705), makes it a crime to vandalize them (or to injure, deface or destroy any mail de-posited in them). Violators can be fined up to $250,000, or im-prisoned for up to three years, for each act of vandalism.

Postal Inspectors recommend these actions to protect your mailbox and any mail that may be inside it:

* Immediately report theft, tampering, or destruction of mail or mailboxes to your Postmaster. To report it to the Postal Inspectors online go to http://ehome.uspis.gov/mail-theft/vandalize.aspx or call 1-877-876-2455 (press 5).

* Obtain Label 33 from the Postal Inspection Service and af-fix it to your mailbox. The sticker warns that willful dam-age to mailboxes and theft of mail are crimes.

* Keep your mailbox in good repair, and make sure it is properly installed. This may help prevent theft of the mail-box itself.

If you have information on mailbox vandalism, call the Postal Inspection Service to report it. Your cooperation helps ap-prehend violators. You may provide your information or complaints to your local postmaster or your nearest Postal Inspector<https://ribbs.usps.gov/locators/find-is.cfm>.

File a Mail Theft ComplaintReport these issues to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service on-line:* Mail heft<https://prd2faq.usps.com/faq/iq/usps/re-

quest.do?forward=emailUs> Under Where is My Pack-age, enter the tracking number or select No and then click on Continue and enter all applicable information.

All information is voluntary, but the more you provide, the more likely it is that we can help you. We may share your in-formation with other agencies if it comes under their jurisdic-tion. See the Privacy Act statement https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/other/privacy.aspx for more details. This site uses secure methods to transfer data.

If you prefer to file your complaint over the phone, please call 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777).

The Postal Inspection Service will contact you only if more in-formation is needed. They gather data on mail-related crime to determine whether a violation has occurred. While they can’t guarantee they can recover lost money or items, your infor-mation can help alert Postal Inspectors to problem areas and possibly prevent others from being victimized. Inspectors base their investigations on the number, substance, and pattern of complaints. They ask you to keep all original documents re-lated to your complaint.

SUNNYMEAD RANCH ROUND-UP MAY 2017 PAGE 7

BucKS & DOES (B&D)Our newest honorary member joined B & D on January 1, 2017 however; most members did not have the pleasure of meeting her until our March meeting. For you see Sarah Rose Clark ar-rived a little premature on New Year Day morning. When she

made her grand entrance at her Welcome Home celebra-tion, she was all decked out in her pink. matching perfectly with the decoration Tee had adorned the room and table setting with. Of course, all the women immediately sur-rounded her upon her entrance. The bling on the beautiful centerpieces was also most as bright as Sarah Rose’s face when she smiled. Sara had plenty of arms willing to hold her and it was hard to tell who enjoyed it more, the baby or the ladies!

Well what is a celebration without gifts? We do not know because the members went all out with gifts for this little princess. There was a hand knitted blanket, the cutest little silver and white shoes, gorgeous dresses, including one that could be wore off the shoulders! Little tutus, leggings, socks, hair accessories and many other items too. In addi-tion, the parents received great gifts cards. Yes this little girl wardrobe is set for a little while at least.

Moreno Valley’s own Joe’s Italian Restaurant catered the event. There was plenty fettuccine alfredo, meat ravioli, garlic bread, and sumptuous tiramisu cake to go around. There was also a wonderful fresh green garden salad.

This month we celebrate Mitt Sandru May 11th birthday and Ed and Mary Jensen May 3rd wedding anniversary. Do not forget Mother’s Day May 14th!

Paul’s upcoming entertainment selection is Menopause in May 28. If interested please give him a call @ 951 601-3309. He would love to hear from you.

B & D meets on the third Wednesday of each month; the official meeting begins at 6:00 pm. You do not have to be a member to come out. Wine and Chat starts at 5:30 (bring your own wine). Our catered dinners include two entrees, salad, dessert, and a beverage (free refills) for only $11.00! Just call Tee Hall at 951 924-6687 so she can order your dinners. We look forward to seeing you and sharing a fun filled evening.

We do have room for more committee or clubs to promote theirselves. This an event that all your kids and Grandkids are really going to enjoy their selves being a Happy Campers. Lots of fishing and games will be played. The most important thing everyone needs to know for now is that every Home in the Ranch will have a reserved Free Pass for Camp Night Weekend. These free passes are only for authorized residents in each household. In other words if you have a Photo Access Card, you will get a free Camp Pass. As Residents pick up their Camp Passes starting 19 April 2017, we will know how many kids are camping out so we can provide enough Smores for them to devour. Also kids, bring your own wire coat hanger for the Fire Pit Toasting. For you First Time Campers, here is basically how Camp Night Weekend kicks off. The Camping Committee will already be on the grounds early Friday, 19 May, to assist everyone stopping and unloading their camp gear. The front gate opens up to start letting campers in at 3 pm. You can drive in, unload your gear and deposit it off at the curb. Then you can leave someone there to watch it and you will have to immediately take your car back out. There will be big traffic jams so we need to keep everyone moving as smoothly as possible. The Camp Committee Members will have on Green Shirts and Hats. We will be helping you unload and keeping vehicles moving. Again you can not move your camp gear from the curb until you move your car. You will also be able to swim, play basketball and tennis till 12 midnight that Friday and Saturday. You can not win any prizes without an Access Card with your photo on it. Fishing prizes will have two catago-ries. Fish prize for 15 years old and up and prizes for kids 14 and younger. Kids can also win prizes and gifts with the Games that Mildred Mason provides for them. I will also bring an Air Compressor for you to blow up your own mattresses. We will not blow them up for you. But please ask one of us to turn it on for you. Looking forward to a great time and lets make this the best one ever. Actually I know this Camp Night will be better because of our constant improvements, every year. If any Campers want to bring extended Family Guest, please check with the front office for complete details. Sunny Williams,

cAMP NIGHT WEEKEND continued from cover

SUNNYMEAD RANCH ROUND-UP MAY 2017 PAGE 9

Hello, it is us again, Sunny Williams and Vivian Brock. Our Table Game Night is still going great. Last month, on 30 April at 3pm, we again had over 40 people attend. We had more than usual several Bid Whist tables because of our tournament. We are still having Pinochle classes and more players have learned the game. We teach people how to play Bid Whist and other table games. Players always bring food and drinks to share. We don’t use any of your Association money to fund us. We all chipped in with about two dollars each to pay for our own Trophies. This is just Home Owners and their Guests having fun the third Sunday of every month except for April because of previ-ously book events. We listened to music and have so much fun. We normally play two to three hours. But that is up to you and your friends, you bring with you. As always, we have lots of Friendly Fun Trash Talking and Bragging. This will be our first friendly Bid Whist Tournament on 30 April. No money is involved in winning. Anyone in the Ranch can come out and join us for this fun Family event. You are even allowed to bring guests. Those of you who have called the Front Office to talk to me or Vivian, you can email me directly for more info at [email protected]. Title your Email “Bid Whist” so it is easier to spot. Thank you to the my fellow Board of Directors and Staff at the gate who always take good care of us. More people are starting to ask about what we do at our social event. The word is quickly getting out that we have lots of fun. The winners of the Bid Whist Tournament will be announced next month. fISHING cOMMITTEE REPORTHello to all of our fishing enthusiasts here in Sunnymead Ranch. This is the Fishing Committee reporting, and we wanted to let you know the latest on what’s going on with our committee. So here we go....

As many of you know, we meet once a month, usually the third Thursday of each month, and at the Clubhouse. When we meet, we discuss the latest issues dealing with the fishing here in our lake, and when appropriate, we make recommendations to the Board of Directors about those issues that impact the quality of the lake, the need or no need for fish-stockings, and we assist with enforcing the fishing-rules as they apply here for our residents and guests.

Right now, during this month, the following will be taking place: First, we will be having a fish-stock of approximately 1,000 lbs of catfish. They are expected to arrive during the week of May 12th – May 15th, depending on how deliveries to other locations scheduled by our fishery go, but we expect them to be here before the 15th of May.

And, as part of the stocking process, there will be the required three-day moratorium on fishing, starting the day of the actual stocking, and ending 72 hours later. During that period there will be no fishing allowed, in order to give the new stock an opportunity to swim throughout the lake and acclimate themselves to their new habitat. Once the moratorium is lifted, everyone is encouraged to fish to their hearts content.

The next thing we wanted to share with you is that we will be assisting the Camp-Night committee with an activity for their participants, namely a “fishing clinic”, for those who want to learn some of the more successful techniques for catching fish here in our lake. The clinic will be hosted by our committee, and should be a lot of fun, as well as instructional. The clinic is FREE, and you just have to be a camper here that weekend in order to participate. Be sure to bring your own poles, because we won’t have any extra ones.

The next thing is that you are going to see that new signs have been posted around the lake and Clubhouse areas. These are to let fishing-folks know that we shouldn’t be feeding the ducks that like to call our lake their home. Feeding them is actually a danger to them, because our food can cause choking or bloating of the ducks, which can eventually lead to their deaths, and nobody wants that. So, please refrain from feeding them when you see the, okay?

Next, we need to pass on to you that in spite of what you might have heard, the rule of “catch and release” STILL applies to any BASS that are caught here at our lake. The Board of Directors temporarily suspended the rules regarding catching Bass, but it was only temporary, and the rule is back in-force. So, don’t forget, when it comes to Bass, it’s “Catch and Release”.

Finally, we’ve passed on to the Board of Directors our strong concerns regarding some residents over-fishing on the lake. We’ve posted signs all around the lake that explain pretty clearly what the daily limits are for catching various types of fish, and yet there are still a handful of fishing folks who continue to violate the posted rules. It’s our hope that the Board will use all means available to have the rules enforced, and we hope that all of the residents agree with us that if we’re going to have rules on how many fish we can catch on a daily-basis, then they also agree to abide by those rules.

That’s it for this month, and we’re looking for the habitats we had installed a couple of years ago, to continue to produce on-going crops of catfish and other species. We’ll let you know down the road how well they are all doing. Ultimately, they could impact how many future fish we might need to or not need to have to purchase for stocking the lake. Time will tell, and it’s still too soon to know how well they are working.

Thanks for reading our report, and we’ll report back again next month. Good fishing to Everyone.
