Introduction The purpose of this experiment

was to find out if acid rain affected the growth of the plant. To see if the plant would grow or would be normal or if it didn’t even grow at all. In this power point that I have made you will see the result of the control in the experiment and the variable of this experiment.

The control in this experiment was tap water.

The variable in this experiment was vinegar water/ acid rain.

Materials Plastic cup super growing pellets Triple beam balance scale Sunflower seeds Water or 10% vinegar water Ruler Data sheet

Page 4: Sunflowers and Acid Rain

Methods1. Add super growing pellets to cup.

2. Add 3 tablespoons of water to expand.

3. Plant 3 seeds per cup.

4. Weigh cup on triple beam balance. Record weight.

5. Add tap water or vinegar water to cup. Weigh again and record data.

6. Cup will be placed under grow light.

7. Observe the container daily and note any indications of growth(by observations and measurement) and compare to other containers in the experiment. While observing indicate any special care given to the plant. (Did you need to add more or less water? Did you need to rotate the plant?)

8. Record observations, measurements, and comments in the plant growth diary. Once the plant begins to grow, you will need to draw a detailed picture of the plant including the appearance of leaves and stems.

9. Each day , repeat steps 3 through 8.

Ask a QuestionThe purpose of this

experiment was to see how acid rain affects plant growth.

My question: How will acid rain affect plant growth?

Page 7: Sunflowers and Acid Rain

State Your HypothesisIf I plant a sunflower

seed in the ground and only water it with only vinegar water the plant will grow a lot more in a few days than a plant watered by tap water.

Page 8: Sunflowers and Acid Rain

Identify Control & Variable

The control was tap water The variable is 10%

vinegar water.

Page 9: Sunflowers and Acid Rain

Test Your HypothesisIf I add vinegar water

to my sunflower seed, then it would grow a lot faster and easier than tap water because of the acid rain or “vinegar water” chemicals in it’s just what the plants need to grow faster.

Collect & Record Your Data

Page 11: Sunflowers and Acid Rain

Interpret Your Data This is where you put your analysis. The

results showed plants grow bigger and faster water by acid rain than watered by tap water.

As part of this experiment there may have been variables or scientific errors that could have affected the growth of the plants and the outcome of this experiment. The variables affecting the results may have been very good in the result of growing. Scientific errors that could have occurred and affected the results include the plant could have not grown and just stay dead but instead grew rapidly.

Page 12: Sunflowers and Acid Rain

State Your Conclusion The results of this lab did support the

initial hypothesis I do believe the outcome of the plant growth went very well because of most of the chemicals in the acid rain. Some things that were learned from this experiment was acid rain is better for plant growth and that takes up less time. This experiment could be extended in the future by remaking the acid rain or catching some in a cup and put it on franchise.
