Patty cake patty cake, Bakers man bake me a cake as fast as you can.

• Sliced whole grain or whole wheat bread

• Peanut Butter (or any nut- free spread alternative)

• Bananas slices round• Blueberries or Raisins

Five Big Dump Trucks

Five little cookies (HOLD UP 5 FINGERS) With frosting galore.

(CHILD’S NAME) ate the red one, then there were four (HOLD UP 4 FINGERS).

Four little cookies, Two and two you see (CHILD’S NAME) ate the green one, then there were three (HOLD UP 3 FINGERS).

Three little cookies But before I knew, (CHILD’S NAME) ate the white one, then there were two (HOLD UP 2 FINGERS).

When the sun comes out, I can’t play. I just slowly melt away!

Snowflakes falling down, Falling on the ground. (WIGGLE FINGERS DOWNWARD)

Great, big white flakes (MAKE CIRCLES WITH THUMBS AND FOREFINGERS TOUCHING) That do not make a sound. (FINGER TO LIPS AND SHAKE HEAD ‘NO’).

This is a great opportunity to teach body parts. Assist your child in drawing a snowman. Name body parts.

Take two baskets and place a different sock in each basket. Give your child one of the mates and ask: “Find the one that looks like this one.”

Use rolled up socks to have an indoor snowball fight.

Let’s collect words together

Create a word list from words used in the book.

MATERIALS NEEDED: Paper, markers or pencil

DIRECTIONS: After reading the story, ask for help in creating a list of words that described what the story was about. Discuss words in de-tail and ask question about how your child felt when hearing the story.

Scavenger hunt of emotions

MATERIALS NEEDED: Emotion cue cards, construc-tion paper of various colors cut into patches, markers

DIRECTIONS: After discussion various emo-tions, place emotion cues in a basket to be pulled. Take turns and try and identify the faces of expressions.

After labeling emotions that were possible in the story, en-courage child to match a color to the emotion from looking at the cues. After choosing a match, copy the emotion name onto the color patch.
