Ishihara’s Tests for ColorDeficiencyWhat is color blindness?Color blindness (color vision deficiency) is a condition in which cer-tain colors cannot be distinguished,and is most commonly due to aninherited condition. Red/Green colorblindness is by far the most common(99%) form and causes problems indistinguishing reds and greens.Another color deficiency, Blue/Yellowalso exists, but is rare (1%) and thereis no commonly available test for it.
There is no treatment for color blind-ness, nor is it usually the cause of anysignificant disability. However, it canbe very frustrating for individualsaffected by it. Those who are notcolor blind seem to have the miscon-ception that color blindness meansthat a color blind person sees only inblack and white or shades of gray.While this sort of condition is possi-ble, it is extremely rare.
The Ishihara color test is a test forcolor blindness. It was named after itsdesigner, Dr. Shinobu Ishihara (1879-1963), a professor at the University ofTokyo, who first published his tests in1917. It makes use of the peculiaritythat in red-green blindness, blue andyellow appear remarkably bright compared to red and green.
It consists of a number of coloredplates, on each plate is printed a circlemade of many different sized dots of
slightly different colors, spread in arandom manner. Within the dot pattern, and differenti-ated only by color, is a number. What,or even if, a number is visible indicates if and what form of colorblindness the viewer has. The full testconsists of thirty-eight plates, but theexistence of a deficiency is usuallyclear after fewer plates. The IshiharaColor Charts are accepted by leadingauthorities worldwide as a simple andaccurate test method.
The color plates are available in analbum-type book for ease of handling.The books are printed in Japan andare protected by international copy-right. Graham-Field has been theexclusive North American wholesaledistributor of Ishihara Tests for over25 years.

The growing demand for accuratenon-mercury sphygmomanometers forthe physician and hospital marketshas prompted Graham-Field toredesign its popular Wallmax™ MobileSphygmomanometer.
The final product culminates a 9-month Graham-Field design andengineering project. Labtron’sWallmax™ aneroid was chosen for itsuncompromising accuracy and ease-of-use. The heavy-duty tip-proofmobile base and lower pole werebased upon the already proven low-profile mobile base, currently utilizedon Lumex® I.V poles.
Wallmax’s™ upper pole, adapterbracket and components are fabricat-ed in Graham-Field’s Wisconsin steelmanufacturing facility.
The design and engineering projectwas a joint effort between Graham-Field’s Atlanta marketing and qualityteams, Colorado-based (E&J) industrial designers, Wisconsin basedengineering team, Wisconsin manufac-turing facility and offshore factories.Our Missouri distribution center isresponsible for final assembly andinspection.
