Dorcas Women’s Fellowship

Our November meeting was held November 14 with eight members and one guest present. Our program speaker was Rich Lageman explaining the Books from Birth program. The focus of this program is to provide a book a month to children age 0-5 in Warren county. Several upcoming events were discussed. We have purchased a new Bunn coffee pot for the kitchen and made a donation to the church Christmas decorating committee. We will have a noon carry-in luncheon for our December meeting. All ladies of the church are invited to our monthly meetings.

Small Group Discussion

Every Wednesday night at 7:00 pm, there will be a small group who meet to delve more deeply into the previous Sunday’s scripture using the questions posed on the back of the bulletins as a starting point. If you would like to participate, just show up! All are welcome. The meeting will be held in Room 3 (large classroom upstairs). Please use the entrance on the Thurman St. side of the building.

Lippstadt Christmas Service

If you would enjoy a simple, beautiful service at a lovely old

church, please join us on Sunday, December 16 at 7:00 pm at Lippstadt Church. Attending the candlelight service at Lippstadt has become a favorite Christmas tradition among many Friedens members and friends.

Special Olympics Calendars

The 2019 Special Olympics Calendars, featuring beautiful local nature photography by Mike Shaw, are now available to order. The calendars are $25 a piece and proceeds go to Special Olympics. The order form is in the church office.

Under the Mistletoe

Pastor Andrew

Over and over Scripture tells us we cannot hate those we can see and then claim to love God who we cannot see, for “God is love.” (1 John 4:8) Speaking of love, do you have mistletoe in your house? If you don’t, get some mistletoe. Kissing under the mistletoe is a tradition that came from the Druids in Northern Europe. They believed mistletoe had curative power and could cure lots of things including broken relationships. So, when two enemies happened to meet under an oak tree with mistletoe hanging over them, it was a sign from God that they should drop their weapons and reconcile. When missionaries moved into Northern Europe, they saw this mistletoe as a fitting symbol for what happened to the world at Christmas. At Christmas a new age dawned, it was a time of peace, a time of healing, a time for embracing one another and letting go of the past. If you want Christmas to be more than a day on the calendar, go in the spirit of love and mend what is broken. Go and make peace. Don’t put it off. Swallow your pride, drop your resentment, put away the grudge, go set it right, then you’ll have the Christmas God intends. Merry Christmas, Rev Andrew

Poinsettias for Sale

If you would like to order a Poinsettia in honor or memory of a loved one, complete and turn in a 2018 Poinsettia Order Form by December 7. Each 6” plant costs $10. Money and order forms should be given to Pam in the office.

The Christmas Fund 2018 For the Veterans of the Cross and the Emergency Fund

This fund has been a way in which we, as members of the United Church of Christ and the predecessor denominations from which our Church was born, share with those who have served and now find themselves facing unforeseen financial crises. The gifts of the UCC congregations fund the Pension Board’s Ministerial Assistance Program for retired clergy. Offering envelopes for donations will be available in the pews and the church office through December 23rd.

SERRV Sale

Serrv is a nonprofit, fair trade organization dedicated to lifting disadvantaged artisans, farmers, and their families out of poverty.

Behind every basket, tunic and necklace that we offer, you'll find a story of positive change. A story of an empowered artisan or farmer who works in a safe environment, can send his or her children to school, and can save for the future with the reliable income he or she earns through fair trade.

The mission committee will hold our annual SERRV sale on December 2nd and 9th and we will also hold a presale for those wishing to shop before the sale. The catalog will be available during the 10:00 coffee hour in the dining room. Stop by the table outside of the youth room to look at the catalog. Thank you for your support of this mission project.
