Midland Disaster Response On May 19th, the city of Midland, Michigan suffered flooding as a result of the breaching of two dams following days of heavy rain. Several families from Christ Covenant OPC in Midland suffered the flooding of their homes; one family’s home was completely flooded. The diaconal committee of the Presbytery of Michigan and Ontario immediately mobilized a disaster response effort, in cooperation with OPC Disaster Response. Christ Covenant desires to see its families cared for in restoring their homes, but they also see in this devastation an opportunity to show mercy in the name of Christ to their neighbors suffering in the vicinity of the church. Reformed Missions Services has come alongside the OPC in offering the use of their shower trailer and other equipment. Those desiring to participate in this effort can register as a volunteer at opcdisasterresponse.org/volunteer-registry or contact Sam Phillips: midlandvolunteers@opc.org. Gifts toward this effort can be designated to “Midland Flood” (give.opc.org/diaconal-ministries-summary).

Needed:

Hospitality Coordinator: We need volunteers to serve as food and housing coordi-nators. Christ Covenant OPC has ample space for food preparation and has of-fered the Church as a possible housing site.

Cleaning out: Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, disinfecting, and helping to dry out–all the things that need to happen before reconstruction can begin.

Reporter/Photographer: Do you have a passion for taking writing or taking pic-tures? We need to document this disaster for our publications. No degree or experi-ence is required!

Driver/delivery person: A licensed driver is needed to run errands and pick up equipment.

Construction: Hanging drywall, painting, maintenance. Putting it all back together!

Packing up/finishing: A group to finish up, return supplies, and make sure every-thing is cleaned up as the teams leave.
