  • Scripture Reading Matthew 21:23-32

23 When he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him as he was teaching, and said, “By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?” 24 Jesus said to them, “I will also ask you one question; if you tell me the answer, then I will also tell you by what authority I do these things. 25 Did the baptism of John come from heaven, or was it of human origin?” And they argued with one another, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say to us, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’ 26 But if we say, ‘Of human origin,’ we are afraid of the crowd; for all regard John as a prophet.” 27 So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.” And he said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.

28 “What do you think? A man had two sons; he went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work in the vineyard today.’ 29 He answered, ‘I will not’; but later he changed his mind and went. 30 The father went to the second and said the same; and he answered, ‘I go, sir’; but he did not go. 31 Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are going into the kingdom of God ahead of you. 32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him; and even after you saw it, you did not change your minds and believe him.

Chorus Trust and obey, for there's no other way

To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey

When we walk with the Lord, in the light of His Word What a glory He sheds on our way

While we do His good will, He abides with us still And with all who will trust and obey

  • Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies But His smile quickly drives it away

Not a doubt nor a fear, not a sigh nor a tear Can abide while we trust and obey

Then in fellowship sweet, we will sit at His feet Or we’ll walk by His side in the way

What He says we will do, where He sends we will go Never fear only trust and obey

We Give Our Tithes & Offerings Prayers & Lord’s Prayer Blessing & Dismissal Closing Song “Here I am, Lord”

Words by Dan Schutte, 1981 Music by Dan Schutte; Adapt by Carlton R. Young, 1988 copyright 1981, 1983, 1989 Dan Schutte and NALR

I the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard my people cry All who dwell in dark and sin, My hand will save

I who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright Who will bear My light to them, whom shall I send?

    Chorus

Here I am Lord, Is it I Lord? I have heard You calling in the night

I will go Lord, if You lead me I will hold Your people in my heart.

I the Lord of snow and rain, I have borne my people's pain.

I have wept for love of them, they turn away.

I will break, their hearts of stone, give them hearts for love alone.

I will speak my word to them. Whom shall I send?

I the Lord of wind and flame, I will tend the poor and lame

I will set a feast for them, my hand will save.

Finest bread I will provide, till their hearts be satisfied.

I will give my life to them. Whom shall I send?
