“September Again...”
Pastor D. Marie
Every now and again we reach a point in life where we are faced with a decision that we know will be a defining moment in their lives. As for me, these moments always seem to take place in the month of September. I remember it was a
Sunday morning worship service in September 2016 that I publicly affirmed my faith before this congregation, and made the decision to cement myself to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) denomination. In almost exactly 365 days following that moment, I experienced yet another decision that would be a defining moment in my life. On September 17, 2017, I stood before the congregation, family members, numerous friends and colleagues, to take vows committing myself to a lifetime of service to the Lord’s Church and entered into a covenantal agreement with the First Christian Church to serve as Pastor. Reflecting on the mixture of excitement, uncertainty, and anxiety I once possessed before making these major decisions. I now realize, what God has planned, paled in comparison to the pain and pressure I experienced during the decision making process. My life, my relationship with God, and my relationship with others have significantly enhanced because I made the decision to have faith and follow Gods plan. It’s September again, and like many others, I find myself faced with another life defining moment. A few days ago, after praying for direction, as I was skimming though David Gushee, Changing our Minds, I stumbled across the following quote that instantaneously made it easier for me to embrace my decision and hopeful with help you as you live through your own personal September decisions. David asserts, “Old Paradigms + Transformative Encounters with Jesus = Paradigm Leaps...The absurdly wonderful Good News that a crucified Jewish carpenter is the Messiah of Israel and Savior of the entire world, and has come to rescue us, was the first such paradigm leap in the history of Christianity...Christians actually call it “the gospel”. It transformed the world” Jeremiah 29:11 states, - “For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.”
Regional News
Hi Disciples Women of the Christian Churches in
PA! This is a friendly reminder that the 2018 PA
DWM Retreat is coming up soon! The DWM Board
welcomes YOU! After prayerful consideration, it is
being held at Camp Joy El in Greencastle, PA. It is a
beautiful camp and it has “lodge” type
accommodations! It has ground level entrances to
lodge, kitchenette, and meeting room. We think you
will be pleased. Registrations are coming in slowly.
Since we normally have around 30 or more in
attendance, the region has “committed” to
accommodations for 30. IF the commitment of 30
attendees is met, we MAY be able to offer a small
scholarships. Please don’t miss out on a fun, spirit
filled weekend with your “sisters”. Since we no
longer have Quadrennial it is important to set aside
time to get to know our Christians “sisters” at our
yearly retreat. The $200 cost is reasonable as it
includes 2 night lodging and 4 full meals. Won’t you
please register today?
