Our Hospitals & HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act)

If you, a friend or family member are in Sarasota Memorial or Doctors Hos-pitals and are looking for spiritual care, there is a pro-cedure you must follow be-cause of the new laws that are now in force.

If you are at sarasota Me-morial Hospital and wish Holy communion or a vis-it by the catholic chaplain you must:

1. Dial 0, ask for the Chap-lain’s Office and request Communion. This Chaplain is full-time at the hospital and lives at St. Martha’s Parish. We pay a portion of his salary to ensure our Catholics are seen.

2. If you are going to be there a few days, call the Parish Office and let us know. We will then be able to send Father Michal or Father Joe to visit you. Each priest visits the hos-pitals once a week. The Chaplain visits every day. It is important to take the above steps, as there no longer is a Catholic parish list available to the priest. 3. The same is required at Doctors Hospital and Hos-pice.

The laws, though they seem strict, are for the pri-vacy and protection of the hospital patient.

Liturgical MinistriesIf you are an Altar Server, Lector, or Extraordinary Minister of Holy communion and will be away, contact Joanne Tarara: [email protected]; or if you are a Hospitality Minister, contact charles Ballschmieder: [email protected] and let either person know your away dates. You do not want to be scheduled while you are gone!

Written notice of your changes is required the 1st of each month. If you are scheduled and cannot make it, you are asked to find a replacement from our list.

SOLVE Maternity Home - OPENING SOON!If an abortion-minded woman or teen in a crisis pregnancy turns to SOLVE MATERNITY HOMES in Bradenton for advice or life direction, and decides to choose life for her unborn baby, it's not good to tell her there's a waiting list for housing. It's heartbreaking to know that many times, these women never return. Although there are many fine pregnancy centers in this area, none offer residential housing. If the need arises, clients are referred to SOLVE. Our three SOLVE homes are nearly always filled to capacity. Yet SOLVE's newest maternity home in Sarasota has been empty and ready for months, waiting to shelter grateful mothers-to-be. If sufficiently funded ($25,000 needed) the new Sarasota home will open in Fall 2015. Through generous donations and a $100,000 matching grant from Baycross christian Family Foundation, SOLVE has collected about three-fourths of the amount needed. SOLVE receives its funding through private donations to retain its christian autonomy. It is estimated that 1,500 at-risk babies have been born to SOLVE residents, and countless thousands of other mothers and babies helped through SOLVE's outreach programs. consider making a donation, it will be matched by the foundation (grant opportunity expires Sept. 30).

Mark checks with "SPEAK LIFE" in the memo line, and send to SOLVE MATERNITY HOMES, 1509 8th Ave. W., Bradenton, FL 34205, or go to www.solve-homes.org and click on "Make a Donation." check "SPEAK LIFE" to ensure your donation is directed to the matching funds appeal. contact information: Peggy or Brian Kerwin at 941-748-0094. SOLVE Maternity Homes is a christian, Non-Denominational, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization
