O n112011 performed an impromptu inspect ion on the Denison Sunday and Topaz mine complexOverall th ings appeared to be in order An outbuilding h a d been to rn down on the site and some debrisfrom the bui ld ing appeared t o have been bu ried in the waste dump at th e east end of the Sunday minedump I t appeared tha t wa te r r u n on capture ditches h a d been recently mucked ou t There wa s someerosion at th e topaz where a drainage that flows arou nd th e b ase of th e dump has jumped its channel andis eroding into the ground below the dump but not into the dump itself RECEIVED

West Sunday The road to th e m ine w as i n good shape and there was no substant ia l erosion on th e dumpthat I saw The gate was secu re and there was no sign of recen t disturbanceTopaz T h ere were some ruts on th e access road A fissure that had appeared on th e dump a year earlierwas f lagged I saw n o signs of movement or enlargement a n d suspect it may b e from infiltration of finesmore th an mas s movemen t as the re was no continuing vertical or horizontal offset There was somee rosion whe re th e drainage which flows past th e base of th e dump o n th e west side had jumped i t s channelbelow the dump and i s in th e beg inning s tages o f carving a new drainage This may partially be a naturalprocess as there i s somewha t o f an alluvial fan at that location however measures shou ld p robab ly betaken to pu t the drainage back in its orig inal channel so that it does no t damage th e roadS t Jude The runoff con tro l pond nex t t o the access road will need t o b e mucked ou t before spr ing toensure adequate f reeboard Some halogeton was present Culverts on th e access may need to be biggerCarnation Looks ok The weeds werentoo badSunday Mine Seve ra l leng ths o f culvert a s seen from th e G yp Valley Road have come loose and need tobe stacked and secured as a good housekeeping issue A cat 315 excavator was on site It was u sed totear down a n ou t building Most of t h e deb r is was in a dumpster however something was buried in t h edump approx imate ly 10 0 y ards from th e demolition site The hole was a few cub ic yards volume Some

trash was observed on the surface a catalogue perhaps but it was mostly buried I cou ld not tel l whatwas buried in the hole A r u n oncapture trench above th e m ine w as recently excavated
