TODAY—Thoughts on the Transfiguration: Moreover that fire, that

piece of the soul that can never be domesticated, is the best part of us.

Pastor’s Desk:

Greetings, to all and thank you for all those who have brought me ‘chicken soup,’ and ‘get well,’ cards, as well as those who pick up groceries when I was bedridden. I was caught off guard by that ‘bug,’ just sneaks in fast and hard. And I thought I was getting stronger and healthier after I did my one week of detoxifying my body, well; it showed me that we are not in control of our life. We just do the best what we can do on what life presents us. In today’s Lesson, for the disciples who witnessed the transfiguration Event was awesome ----- so awesome in fact that they didn’t want to leave when it was over. They actually had seen the glory of God shinning through the Body of Christ. Of course they wanted to stay on the mountaintop to reflect and meditate on the wondrous vision. Of course they wanted to build a chapel to commemorate it. Of course they wanted to stay with Jesus in the place where they had just spent the supreme moment of their lives. But in that supreme moment, they had heard the voice of God say, “Listen to Him!” And, of course they had to obey Jesus when he ordered them to go back down the mountain to where there were people in need ---to minister to those who are most precious to him. To us disciples of Christ who have come together in this place, shouldn’t this worship event be awesome? The glory of God still shines through the Lord Jesus who is in our midst now. The loving Presence of God is made real to us now through the Body of Christ. And the unmistakable voice of God is speaking to us now: This is My beloved Son who is most precious to ME… Listen to Him! Follow Him from this place to where there are people in need --- and minister to them! The Lord Jesus Christ is most precious to God. We Christians have no trouble at all accepting that reality. But we do seem to have trouble accepting the reality that we ourselves are precious to God. You and I, and the members of our families, and all our friends, and all our neighbors, and all whom we consider to be our enemies, and every passing stranger, and every human person God chooses to create ---all are precious to God. Indeed, when God made the earth, HE filled it with everything that is most precious to Him! Oh Dear Lord, help us to see more clearly what God has done for us, in the through the Lord Jesus! Peace and Blessings, Fr. Luis

A rewarding and needed way to help feed the poor of Sonoma County!! Liturgical Music Corner by our Music Director, Rebecca Brown March 1, Second Sunday of Lent “From the shining cloud the Father’s voice is heard: This is my beloved Son, listen to Him.” In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus takes three of his disciples up to a high mountain and is transfigured before their eyes! On this mountain, called Mt. Tabor, the disciples see Jesus conversing with Moses and Elijah! The actual Feast of the Transfiguration, celebrated on August 6th, celebrates the revelation of Christ’s divine glory on Mt. Tabor. The brightness was not something added to Christ but the manifestation of His divine nature. It was also a glimpse of the resurrected body that Jesus promises to all Christians. Songs for the 9 am Mass: Processional Hymn: Return to God (SS) Psalm 116: I will walk before the Lord in the land of the living. Gospel Acclamation: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ, King of endless glory. Preparation of Gifts: From Glory to Glory (BB # 699) Communion Song: This Alone (BB # 403) Recessional Song: Save Your People (BB # 131) The Gloria is omitted during the Lenten season, as is the “Alleluia”, both of which will be brought back in all their glory during the Holy Thursday and Easter liturgies. Children’s Choir Children old enough to read, usually 7 and up, are invited to join a children’s choir to sing at Easter. We invite parents to talk to Music Director Rebecca Brown after the 9:00 AM mass on Sundays. Rebecca has taught music to young people for 25 years. Imagine how joyful the presence of children will make our Christmas and Easter liturgies! We are hoping we have a good response so we can have an Easter Egg hunt this year! Singing in a choir is a wonderful experience for young people and we hope you will encourage today’s very busy parents to make time to participate. So many parents are working on weekends, perhaps if you offer to take the kids to mass for them, or drive them home after choir practice, it might make the difference for them. Please pray that our Music Ministry and our religious education programs can draw families back to God. Thank you.
