Baking for Education

This is Courtney Cassidy, a sophomore in high school and a former student at OLV. I recently created a page on JustGiving.com titled Baking for Education. I created this page so I could sell my homemade desserts and donate the proceeds to the Mercy Education Project. The Mercy Education Project provides tutoring, educational summer camps, and literacy programs that prepare girls and women in Detroit for college and joining the workforce. A good education is not a reality for many young women in Detroit. With your help, I will be able to donate to the Mercy Education Project to change the lives of girls and women in Detroit

I am still getting organized at the moment, but plan to start selling my desserts in July. Please look for more information in upcoming bulletins. The link is: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/bakingforeducation.

Thank you, Courtney Cassidy

In today’s Gospel (Matthew 10:37-42), you will hear Jesus tell us: “Whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones to drink because the little one is a disciple—Amen, I say to you, he will surely not lose his reward.”

The heart of the paschal mystery is dying and rising. Our daily living can sometimes seem to have more dying than rising. The simple demands of our lives pull it out of us: feeding the infant in the middle of the night, ferrying the kids to soccer, helping with homework when we are dog

tired, cleaning the house & preparing meals, taking time to share a good thing with a spouse, calling & visiting an

aging parent, helping the suffering and the poor. One of the great encouragements of today’s gospel is that all this behavior—like giving “a cup of cold water”—may seem

small to us, but to God they are actions that correspond to those of Christ. The message is that our generosity is far

surpassed by God’s generosity. (Living Liturgy, p.188)

OLV CYO Fall 2020 Sports Registration Closes June 30

2020-2021  OLV CYO Fall Sports Registration  is  now open at www.OLVAthletics.com  for incoming students and parishioners in grades 3-8 who are  interested in playing OLV CYO Cross Country, Cheer, and Volleyball. Football teams are combined with Our Lady of Sorrows and other neighboring parishes. Registration for  CYO Northwest  Catholic Football team can be completed directly

at www.nwcatholicfootball.com.  See age  specifications and the rules of each sport next to each  sport under the  registration tab at www.OLVAthletics.com.   For planning purposes, we ask that all   Registrations are completed by  June 30, 2020.   The sooner we have commitments from players, the easier it is to solidify teams and secure our coaching staff. Pending COVID-19 and government updates, practices are expected to start in the second week of August. Number of teams and grade composition of each team will be determined by number of registrants. Registration does not guarantee a position on a team and try-outs may be conducted if the number of registrants exceeds the number of openings.   A student must submit a current  health status/physical (dated after April 15, 2020) to be eligible and considered for a team prior to the first practice, along with full payment of the registration fee.   Visit www.OLVAthletics.com  to register.  Online payment is expected at the time of registration via credit (VISA, MC) or debit card. No account necessary and no checks accepted.  If the season or a team is cancelled for any reason, refunds will be electronically processed.   If you are interested in coaching any of these sports, please read the Coaches Information requirements on the left menu at www.OLVAthletics.com and apply online under Player-Coach Registration. Coaching positions are assigned on an annual basis.
