Reflection on Today’s Readings:

Ministry gathers us and makes us a faith family...

31st Sunday of Ordinary Time - “The greatest among you will be the one who serves the rest,” Jesus says in today’s Gospel. What wonderful good news for those who give of

their time in service to others! Matthew 23:11

Next Week - Celebrating Our Faith Sat., Nov. 5th & Sun., Nov. 6th - 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

We encourage all to read and reflect on the Biblical passages that will be proclaimed at all Masses next Sunday: Reading 1 Reading 2 Gospel: Wis 6:12-16 (154A) 1 Thes 4:13-18 Mt 25:1-13

^ Ì The Family Visitation Ministry offers spiritual support to those in need. Please call Sr. Teresita at 310-216-2001, or call the Rectory Office at 310- 670-2243, x42.

FOCUS: As followers of Jesus, we are to be focused on growing in faith and humbly serving others - Many people have a habit of expecting more of others than they do of themselves. They notice the splinter in someone else’s eye, yet fail to see the plank in their own (Mt 7:3-5). This is not God’s way. We see this in the life of Jesus, who did not demand of others what He, Himself, would not do. LITURGY OF THE WORD: In the first reading, the priests are admonished to be faithful in leading the people in glorifying God. The second reading reminds the faithful that Paul and the other teachers gave their all in their missionary work. In the Gospel, Jesus teaches that the way to achieve greatness in God’s eyes is through humbly serving others.

LORD HEAR OUR PRAYER … For those who are ill, and those in need of our prayers … Please let us know about the condition of those we’re praying for. We’ll keep/remove their name(s) as requested, after the first few weeks.

ËTo receive Holy Communion (for those who are sick, hospitalized, or home bound) please call Gloria Bowen, 310.670.5971, Eucharistic Minister to the Sick. To have the name(s) included in our prayers, call the Parish Office at 310-670-2243. _ Please pray for those who have died, especially John P. Irwin, and Narciso Obiña (death anniversary) that they may rest in peace.

Dear Parishioners, Thank you to all who contributed to the World Mission Sunday Collection. While an important opportunity to

contribute to world missionary efforts, it is also a day to reflect on our own mission as followers of Jesus. This week we have two important liturgical celebrations—On Tuesday, November 1st, the Solemnity of All Saints, a Holy Day of Obligation (please check further below for the schedule of Masses) and on Wednesday, November 2nd, the Commemoration of the Faithful Departed , All Souls. On All Souls Day there will be a special Mass at Holy Cross Cemetery at 10 am presided by our regional Bishop, Bishop Clark. I hope to see our parishioners there as we remember all our loved ones who have gone before us in faith. Keep the Faith! Devotedly yours, Fr. Gabe

Ministry sends us beyond the parish…

Stewardship is a way of Life for St. Anastasia Church

FACT OF LIFE “The Prayer Chain was Unbroken” The first day of the 40 Days for Life vigil, three mothers chose life for their babies! In the words of the Dallas prayer coordinator, "There was a

steady powerful prayer presence non-stop as people came 'passing the baton.' The prayer chain was unbroken." Earlier in the week, nearly 300 people joined in the nearby park to raise their voices in praise and worship during the Dallas kickoff event. Ramona Trevino shared her journey from Planned Parenthood manager to pro-life witness. "Ramona's testimony lit up the night as a shining example of what God's people can do when they show up and put their trust and faith in God almighty," said another member of the Dallas leadership team. "Thank you to all those who have sacrificed, prayed, fasted and come to the sidewalk for their little brothers and sisters who are yet to be born. Thank you, Holy Spirit, for moving hearts so miraculously and so wonderfully." [40 Days for Life is a focused pro-life effort that consists of: days of prayer & fasting, days of peaceful vigil, and 40 days of outreach.] www.40DaysforLife.Com. Prayer for Life: O God, Help us to repent daily, and then to live each day in joyful obedience. Prepare us to live fully and sacrificially, so that we might live forever with You. Amen.

FROM THE VATICAN - Pope Benedict on World Food Day: A new impulse is needed: In his

message for World Food Day, the Holy Father focused on the grave situation in the Horn of Africa and the causes of food shortages and volatility. [A]griculture work…must not be considered a secondary activity, but as the objective of every strategy of growth and integral development. He continues, This is still more important if we keep in mind that the availability of foods is increasingly conditioned by the volatility of prices and sudden climatic changes. [T]he future of the human family is in need of a new impulse to overcome present fragilities and uncertainties. Although we live in a global dimension, there are evident signs of the profound division between those who lack daily sustenance and those who have many resources, using them often for ends other than food and even destroying them. You can read the entire statement @: http://www.zenit.org/article-33674?l=English. Please give to support the efforts of Catholic Relief Services working in the region to relieve this massive human suffering. Visit also: www.catholicclimatecovenant.org.

October is Rosary Month - Multitudes are asking for Rosaries ... Please help us give them the gift of family prayer! Rosaries for the world program, began with a Rosary campaign to send one million Rosaries to Russia. Since the campaign began in

September 1991 we have sent approximately 20 million Rosaries to families, schools, parishes on every continent. The importance of having Rosaries to encourage families to pray together especially the praying of the Rosary is greatly needed in our world today. Help us to enflesh the words of Servant of God Father Patrick Peyton, CSC, so that these words will echo in the hearts of families all over the world – The family that prays together stays together. Can You Help…? Parish Tuition Assistance Fund: As all of us are very aware, the economic downturn in our country has hit countless families, including some here in our own parish. Some families are unable to meet the financial education for tuition for various reason—sickness, loss of job, etc. You can help so that these children are able to remain in our Catholic School, and keep them to become future Catholic leaders. Please make checks payable to St. Anastasia Church — Tuition Assistance Fund. May God bless you for your kindness and generosity.

LEAVES OF REMEMBRANCE - "When we pause to look at the leaves of a tree, we can see symbols of life's seasons. A leaf reminds us that life involves growing, maturing, and dying. The beauty of life is constant change." With this in mind, we invite you to participate in St. Anastasia's Leaves of Remembrance. Look for Bereavement Ministry members on Diamond Courtyard after most masses today. Please fill out a leaf for your loved ones that have passed. These leaves will fill our Remembrance Tree on the altar during the month of November.

Talking to your kids about cell phone safety - The more advanced cellular devices become, the more functions they have available. Sending pictures over the Internet is something that

children do all the time. Photo-messaging on cell phones is no different. Children need to be aware why all pictures are not appropriate to send. They also need to know that if they receive a message or image that makes them uncomfor- table, they should immediately tell you or another trusted adult. For a helpful pamphlet on cell phone safety, please visit the National Crime Prevention Council website at www.ncpc.org, and click on “cell phone safety.” For particular help, you may call Assistance Ministry at (213) 637-7650.

Living Faith for Kids… “Have we not all the one Father? Has not the one God created us? Malachi 2:10 In biblical times, tribe and family were very

important. They often determined your career, your religion and whom you could marry. Families competed for status and bragged about their great deeds. But the prophet Malachi understood that we are all equally children of the one God and Father. Let us remember that God created each one of us. Whatever we are able to do is a tribute to the greatness of the Creator. God, our Father, stay with us, your sons and daughters.
