Call to Worship (responsively) This is the day which God has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. Come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before God, our Maker.

*Prayer of the Day (unison) Eternal God, from the beginning of time you have called your children into communion with you. Yet we confess that often we have turned to our own way and refused your love and grace. As we worship this day, restore to us the joy of knowing you, and of recognizing your reign among us, through Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.
Assurance of Pardon (responsively) In Christ, we are given new life. The old is gone away. The new is before us. We are freed to live fully in the present. Praise to God for this good news!
*The Lord’s Prayer (unison) Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen

Scripture Lesson Psalm 84 (responsively) How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts! My soul longs, indeed it faints for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God. Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young at your altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God. Happy are those who live in your house, ever singing your praise. Happy are those whose strength is in you, in whose heart are the highways to Zion. As they go through the valley of Baca they make it a place of springs; the early rain also covers it with pools. They go from strength to strength; the God of gods will be seen in Zion. O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer; give ear, O God of Jacob! Behold our shield, O God; look on the face of your anointed. For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than live in the tents of wickedness.
For the Lord God is a sun and shield; God bestows favor and honor. No good thing does the Lord withhold from those who walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, happy is everyone who trusts in you.

Prayer of Dedication (unison) For every benefit we praise you, God; for every gift received and for each gift we are blessed in giving. For all your goodness we give thanks to you: the providence which made and nourishes life; the presence which brings meaning in divine and human love, and the promise that gives hope for each new moment. Out of faith and into hope we are led by your love, and for these graces we return our thanks, through the mercies of Jesus Christ. Amen.

NOTES Welcome to worship at The Church of the Pilgrimage. If you are a visitor, please sign your name one of the pew cards and we will send you a copy of the church newsletter. Please silence your cell phones so we can be fully present to the spirit and to one another. This morning we have nursery/crib room care with Kristin Moses, our childcare worker. Kristen is with us every Sunday. Hearing devices and copies of the morning sermon are available on the marble table in the upper vestibule. A word on sharing prayer concerns: It is very helpful to have concerns written out ahead of time and presented to the pastor. This way the concern only has to be voiced once and takes less time in our service. Thank you for your consideration. Food Pantry Requests: There is a great need for canned vegetables, tuna and other canned meat, small and regular size jars of peanut butter, jelly/jam. Our missions committee recently sent funds, but your donations are still appreciated.
Summer Book Discussion: I’m Proud of You: My Friendship with Fred Rogers by Tim Madigan has been the summer book read for our church. An evening discussion will take place this coming Wednesday August 29th at the home of Helen Nablo and Mike Dunfee, 7 pm.
Next Sunday, September 3rd Reverend Gary Marks, Pastor Emeritus will be our preacher. Reverend Helen will be the worship leader and the sacrament of communion will be part of morning worship. Pulpit Flower Opening: There is an opening for pulpit flowers on September 23. Please call Judy Mitchell at 508-746-3959 if you wish to honor or memorialize someone with beautiful flowers in the sanctuary.
Gathering Sunday is Sunday, September 9th. Sunday school classes resume on September 16th. Women’s Devotional gathering: A few women of the church would like to start another Women’s Devotional gathering for those who cannot make the current group that meets on Wednesday mornings. We would like to meet on Monday mornings from 10am to 11:30am. Our plan is to use similar references like The Upper Room, The Bread of Life, and/or Bible scripture which will provoke discussions while fellowshipping together. Meeting place to be determined---either at the church, the JRC or a local West Plymouth home.
