Church Life “Church life” became part of my vocabulary when I started working with Mike Ireland around 2003. It was the phrase he used to refer to the many things that a congregation does. In a place the size of Southwest, that can be a pretty long list. That is one of the reasons we installed new deacons last month. They will be a great resource to coordinate the ministries of the church and to help us all be more involved. This fall, we are planning a ministry fair to give us an opportunity to learn where each of us can fit it. Between now and then, we will use this bulletin space periodically to let you know about some of those ministries and the deacons and others who lead those efforts. One of the largest ministries at Southwest is our Family Ministry. Russell Neill and Garett Hatton are the deacons in this area. It includes these specific tasks:

Setup for Wednesday Night for the Master

Coordinate Wednesday Night for the Master visitation

Schedule Fellowship Groups

Family retreat planning

Annual Ministry Fair planning

Contact new members

Plan and organize a quarterly meeting for new members with the elders

Check on frequently absent members

Follow-up with new Christians for next steps

Pictures of new members

Get new member information for church office

Schedule those needed to sit with the sick

Oversee “Because We Care” and visitor list

Plan food for those returning from the hospital (Mary Barrett coordinates)

Plan food for funerals (Juanita Scroggins coordinates)

Schedule communion to the nursing homes & shut-ins (Tim Hensley coordinates)

There is a lot going on in the Family Ministry, which means that there are great ways to get involved. If you would like to help in these areas, contact Russell, Garett

or the church office. - Brian As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace. - 1 Peter 4:10

Richard and Melissa Duncan had a baby gir l, Viviane Hope Duncan, on Wednesday, July 17th at Mercy Hospital Ada. She was born around 1:45 pm and passed away shortly after. Our sympathy and continued prayers go out to her parents, Richard and Melissa Duncan, her grandparents, Brent and Diana Lowe and Ried and Donna Duncan, and their families. There will be a visitation for Viviane today from 2 pm to 4 pm at Criswell Funeral Home.

Carla West had a procedure done at the Apex Center in Ada Wednesday. She is home recovering. Please keep her in your prayers.

Ann Tribbey spent several days in the hospital last week, but is at home recovering now. Please keep her in your prayers.

Judy Voto is home recover ing. Please keep her in your prayers.

Joe Moreno asked for our prayers of forgiveness Wednesday evening. He is having some struggles at this time.

Brittany Cox went forward asking for prayers last Sunday morning.

To Our Spiritual Family at Southwest,

Margaret and I, with what we think is the Lord’s approval, have decided to focus our attention on smaller congregations in the area. As many of you know, I have been filling the pulpit when a preacher has been needed in some of the area churches. It has however come to our awareness that some of these churches could benefit from more of our time. Therefore, we will not be attending Southwest as often as we have. With the quality of this eldership and the full-time ministers, Brian, John and David, as well as numerous other very capable preachers and Bible teachers in this fellowship, we have determined our presence is more needed elsewhere. We intend to keep our membership at Southwest and remain under the oversight of this eldership. We intend, as called upon, to still minister to the members of this family whom we have known for

many years and hold so very close to our hearts. We appreciate the support you have given us over the past 20 years and are confident it will continue as we move into a different phase of the ministry.

Sincerely and In Christ,

Floyd and Margaret Kaiser

Dear Southwest Family, Greetings from the Northeast! For anyone still wondering, yes I am still in New York. I am doing quite well and learning a lot. I just wanted to send a little postcard showing my life from the past few months, as well as thank everyone for your prayers, thoughts, and messages! They are very much appreciated! I hope everyone is doing well, and while I wish I could stay longer, it will be nice to see everyone!

Love, your sister in Christ, Brianna Iorga
