A new Rector for TRINITY – Rev Anita Colpus
We are delighted to share that a new rector for TRINITY has been appointed.
Rev Anita Colpus has been vicar at St Luke’s in Reigate for the past 11 years and
is also currently Area Dean. Prior to that she was licensed to a benefice in
Sittingbourne in Kent and before that served her curacy in Notting Hill. She is
passionate about sharing and living out her faith and will encourage TRINITY to
do the same. She likes playing games (all sorts), drinking good coffee, being with
her family, going away in their caravan and spending time with people.
Anita is married to Richard and they have two girls, Hannah (15yrs) & Rachel
(14yrs). Richard is a premises manager at an infants’ school and is a member of
Christian Magicians and enjoys using magic to share the gospel. Hannah is going
into year 11 in September and she is a keen competitive swimmer. Rachel is
going into year 10 in September and loves to bake.
Anita is very much looking forward to serving and leading God’s people at
TRINITY and in the next week or so, we hope to have a short video message
from her.
As you can imagine we are delighted by this news and are looking forward to
Anita joining us later in the Autumn. Please be praying for her and her family as
they prepare for this move, and also for her current parish or St Luke’s who will
have just heard the news that she is moving on – we know only too well how
hard this is to hear! Please continue to pray also for the leadership here at
TRINITY as we navigate these last few months of vacancy.
With every blessing,
Rev Jules Middleton
TRINITY UPDATE
THIS WEEK’S FEATURES STEVE & AMANDA VISIT
Fri 3rd September 2-4pm /
Café12/31
As many of you will know we had hoped
to invite Steve and Amanda back for a
final goodbye celebration, as they had to
leave Lewes during lockdown back in
March. We’ve been in contact with them
to see what they would like to do and
they have suggested a drop in at
Café12/31 for anyone who would like to
say goodbye in person.
Of course this isn’t the grand celebration
that we had hoped for and I know some
of you will be disappointed, but with
Covid still ongoing this seems a sensible
choice, and it is what Steve & Amanda
have suggested. So if you’d like to see
them, say goodbye, or just find out how
things are on the Isle of Wight, we’ll be
hosting a drop in at Café21/31 on Friday 3
September from 2-4pm. Do pop by and
say hello.
TREASURER ROLE
Are you an experienced accountant or
bookkeeper? Would you be prepared to
offer TRINITY an average of 18 hours per
week? The current TRINITY Treasurer,
Ruth Jayawant, is retiring in April 2022
and is looking for someone to shadow her
from January 2022, taking on full
responsibility for the Treasurer role in
April 2022. The role includes maintaining
TRINITY’s financial records, preparing the
annual budget and statutory financial
statements, working with our payroll
agency and with the independent
examiner. If you are interested, please
contact [email protected] for
further details.
CHRISTMAS FAIR TRADE FAIR
As many of you will know for many years
TRINITY has hosted a fair trade fair with
stalls from local sellers. This usually takes
place at Southover in November, and was
previously organised by Amanda
Daughtery. We are unsure if this event will
be able to continue now the Daughterys
have left, and are looking for someone, or
a group of people, who might be willing to
take it on and organise it in the current
form or potentially in a new guise. If you
might be interested in organising this
please get in touch with Jules.
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR
MISSION PARTNER
Lisa and Isaac are the proud parents of
baby Levani Vitality Rapha’Adonai, born a
little earlier than expected on 21 August at
34 weeks. Lisa and Levani are both well
and going from strength to strength. Please
pray for baby Levani to continue to grow
stronger and soon be home with her
family. For Lisa and Isaac pray for strength
and wisdom in transitioning to caring for a
new little one.
FROM THE CORNWELLS
Dear Church Family/Friends,
Barbara and I want to share with you our
future plans.
After many enjoyable years of fellowship at
Southover and TRINITY Churches, sadly
the time has come that we are less mobile,
especially as I can no longer drive.
So we have decided to join our friends
here at St Mary’s Church Barcombe.
We have missed you all during the last
eighteen months, and will certainly be
thinking of you and praying for God’s
blessing especially as the new incumbent
commences her ministry. Praise Almighty
God for this wonderful news!
Thank you for the love and friendship you
have given us, and being our spiritual home
for almost thirty nine years.
John and Barbara Cornwell

LIVING IN LOVE AND FAITH
Rev James Hollingsworth, our Rural Dean,
is facilitating a deanery course on the Living
in Love and Faith project, exploring how we
understand Christian teaching and learning
about identity, sexuality, relationships and
marriage. The deanery LLF course will be
on five Mondays: 13th, 20th & 27th Sept, 4th &
11th Oct. Time, 7pm for 7.30pm ending by
9pm. 13th Sept and 11th Oct to be held at St
Leonard’s Church, Seaford (no zoom
option). The other evenings are likely to be
only by Zoom.
The course is not just for Synod Reps but is
open to all church members. Those
attending will need to adhere to the
pastoral principles of respect and listening
to one another. The aim is to emerge from
this with a deeper insight into these
important matters and questions facing the
church right now. If you’d like to learn
more about LLF, do look here - https://
www.churchofengland.org/resources/living-
love-and-faith
It does require commitment. You will be
sharing with a small group of about six and
will be in that group for the whole course.
You will need your own LLF course book
so please mail [email protected] by
30th August to say you want to come and
bring £5 to pay for and collect your book
on the first evening.

(Mama Syfa), Haddy (Isaac’s sister) and her
husband Steven at Haddy’s school under
construction in Gomba.
The next day I met up with Chege
Kagunda of LIA to fly with MAF from their
airport at Kajjansi in the south to
Adjumani in the north, near the border
with South Sudan. This saved me from an
arduous journey of 2 days in the heat and
on rough roads. We made a brief stop at
Gulu to let out the 6 other passengers
before the final leg up to Adjumani when I
was invited to sit alongside the pilot who
knew Danny Gill well.
Coming into land at Adjumani (see photo)
we circled the runway until the pilot
judged that the cow grazing on the edge of
the landing strip would not cross our
path!
A personal testimony from Rob Hoy
As we come to the end of August it is the
last Sunday this year we will be featuring
the work of Mission of the Month, MAF.
We’ve heard of some of the many ways
MAF has enabled the work of the
Gospel to flourish in some remote areas
of the world.
First we heard about Deborah who has
run Operation Mobiliation’s children’s
ministry in Madagascar since 2017 being
airlifted out of a remote village after
falling seriously ill.
On 8th August, MAF pilot Danny Gill,
our local partner for many years, told us
via a video message about his
experiences helping in the pandemic
response to fly out medical teams to
test and vaccinate communities in South
Sudan. After 3½ years there he went on
to say how has has been called to another
ministry based in London to help young
people from disadvantaged backgrounds
find employment.
Last week we heard how MAF enabled to
2 medical students from Germany to help
at remote clinics in Papua New Guinea.
For this final article I would like to
recount how MAF helped me when I
visited Uganda and Rwanda to carry out
water-related projects from 2nd-26th Feb
2019.
It was a very intensive period with 12
flights including layovers (yes I do feel
guilty!) starting with 4 days in Uganda. The
first was spent visiting Lisa and Isaac and
their family in Gomba, learning about their
plans and looking at the options for a
water supply.
THIS MONTH’S MISSION FEATURE MISSION AVIATION FELLOWSHIP

URGENT ACCOMMODATION
REQUEST
Kym Vealé, a recent member of the team
as our venue administrator is currently
looking for a peaceful two bedroom
property/accommodation to rent, would
consider, due to a challenging time, a short
term arrangement. Excellent references.
Please contact Kym – Mobile: 07731991272
or 01825 751195
Email: [email protected]
FOOD BANK CONTRIBUTIONS
Items for the Lewes Food Banks may be left
in the TRINITY Southover porch.
There followed 2 days intensive training of
locals and refugees from South Sudan –
beneficiaries of 100 water filters. They had
arrived the week before but had taken 6
months to get there!
MAF’s help had enabled me to arrive fresh
to undertake the training and afterwards
complete the 3 weeks of a packed
programme in Rwanda. But that’s another
story.
