CHARITY FIESTA 2009This year’s Charity Fiesta came back with more excitement ever with three events spanning two weeks in August. The theme “Drawing Smiles, Warming Hearts” is selected as it reminds us of being able to give back to the society regardless of its form. This year’s Charity Fiesta has been a challenge due the economic recession and the H1N1 pandemic. Nevertheless, the enthusiastic and fun-loving committee has taken up the challenge and came up three highlights – Wish Upon A Star, Trail of L.O.V.E and Spread the Love – held at various locations around Singapore.

WISH UPON A STAR – As an NVAC’s signature project, Wish Upon A Star is a simple wish granting programme that involves adoption and granting of wishes of beneficiaries. This year, it is held at three locations – Junction 8, Bedok Central and Parkway Parade on 15 - 16 August 2009. With the public’s generous support, we managed to grant more than half of the wishes of eight beneficiaries. Indeed, we are all blessed to be a blessing!

TRAIL OF L.O.V.E – We had about 100 student volunteers from various schools, junior colleges around Singapore and NUS to spread their love to the beneficiaries on 22 August 2009. Our student volunteers gathered at their assigned beneficiaries on this wonderful journey of volunteerism. We believe that our student volunteers had meaningful interaction with the beneficiaries, thereby encouraging direct active volunteerism.

SPREAD THE LOVE – Being held at Junction 8 Open Plaza on 22 and 23 August 2009, the two-day carnival featured a distinctive potpourri of booths and events, from student-manned stalls to beneficiaries’ booth to raise funds and awareness. All-rounded entertainment is provided through enthralling performances and Art Competition. This encouraged the public to embark on their own volunteering journey. Find the volunteer in you!
