D.I.Y.: Forgiveness Is Up To You It seems like all of us love a good home improvement show. Why is that? Why is it so satisfying to watch a project come together? Maybe because we all love a good fixer-upper. We love to see the experts take something that was dilapidated and broken-down and turn it into a thing of beauty.

All of us have some relationships that we might call fixer-uppers. If we’re honest, it takes a lot of strength to want to make them as good as new. It requires us to let go of what is right and fair in order to fix what’s broken. That’s never easy. But with God’s help, we have the tools we need to forgive…to decide that someone who has wronged us doesn’t have to pay.

We are a work in progress! Let’s know be afraid to let things be “in progress.” After all, forgiveness is never done. It’s something we have to choose to do continually. But in the end, it’s worth it for us to have relationships that are strong, whole, and restored.

Throughout the Bible, we can read about the importance of forgiveness. Right from the start, God made a way for Adam and Eve to have a relationship with Him again. The same is true for us. No matter how much we mess up, God will always make a way to forgive us. When it comes to forgiveness, we can also look to Jesus, who chose to forgive even those who were crucifying Him. Because of God’s amazing forgiveness, we should work hard to forgive others.

FORGIVENESS: Deciding that someone who has wronged you doesn’t have to pay. The children will be learning more about FORGIVENESS by way of the following Bible stories:

1. The Unmerciful Servant: Forgive others because God forgives you. Matthew 18:21-35 2. Zacchaeus: When you forgive others, it can change them. Luke 19:1-10 3. Jesus Teaches on Forgiveness: Take the first step to forgive others. Matthew 5:1-2; 23-24 4. The Story of the Lost Son: Everyone needs to be forgiven. Luke 15:11-24 5. Father and Older Brother: When you don’t forgive, you miss out. Luke 15:21-32

Our Mission is:

Putting our faith in action by making new disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

No one walks the discipleship pathway alone. There is no such thing as a

solitary Christian. In the words of John Wesley, “there is no holiness apart from social

holiness”. Being a follower of Jesus means being in community other followers of Je-

sus. We can be religious or spiritual without the presence of other people in our lives,

but we cannot be growing disciples of Jesus Christ without the encouragement, guid-

ance, wisdom, and accountability of other disciples.

Here at our church we have confirmation of the afore mentioned fact. In our Sun-

day Morning Sunday School Classes participants say that they are growing in faith and

life through the group process. We are sanctified by participation in the small group

community. In community our humanity becomes bound up in the humanity of others

and our faith becomes stronger because of the faith of others.

Our founder, John Wesley had his “heart-warming” conversion experience as he

participated in a small group Bible Study. His transformative experience was the root of

his beginning the Methodist Movement that transformed England and spread across the

ocean to America. So, we can say that there may have never been a Methodist Move-

ment without the small group experience.

I can’t promise that every time we meet in small groups or are present in worship

with the gathered congregation that your hearts will be “strangely warmed” as John

Wesley’s was. But I’d invite you to consider that it won’t happen if you aren’t there. Our

presence matters! Our presence results in transformed lives.

There are times we worship to affirm the faith we hold, but there are other times

when we worship so that the faith of the church can hold us! There are times when we

are present in small groups to encourage someone else, and there are times we need

to be present so others can encourage us!

And that’s something to think about during the coming month.

“Let’s hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, because the one who

made the promises is reliable.24

And let us consider each other carefully for the purpose

of sparking love and good deeds. 25

Don’t stop meeting together with other believers,

which some people have gotten into the habit of doing. Instead, encourage each other,

especially as you see the day drawing near.” Hebrews 10: 23-25

Live in grace,

Pastor Quita 2020
