colorful homes that line each fairway, and waving
palms that lend an exotic and enchanting effect,
owners of colored sets w i l l be able to see Gary
Player clearly only because of a last-minute switch
from customary all-black outfit to pastel pink and
blue.
While living-room viewers w i l l be unaware ofthe skil l and time required to set up each shot of
the four-day f i lming, more than one joyful fan washeard to remark; I 'm tired, but how often do you
get to see five of the nation's top golfers free of
charge?
Prize money for the four matches totaled$12,000, each day's winner receiving $2,000 andthe loser $ 1,000. Doug Sanders missed by one inch
$10,000 for a hole-in-one on the par-3, 136-yard12th hole. To take advantage of better l igh t ing ,the last nine holes were played first each morning,
then the golfers teed off on No. 1 in the afternoon.
h Sun Dial is co operating with All StarGolf sponsor Reynolds Metals by not releasing
scores in order to sustain interest for the tele-
casts next fall. Sidelights and comments on
the course can be found in other stories in
this issue.

FROM A GAL S POINT OF VIEW
They were all such nice people . . . pleasant to
talk to . . . all real gentlemen. It was Margaret Hei-
sel talking, after the hub-bub of the All-Star golf
matches had died away. Margaret, Fielding Abbott's
secretary, was referring to the five professional golf
ers filmed in the series
A comment she overheard from Peter Thomson:
We don't have ladies in shorts in the golf galleries
back home. Come to think of it, shorts make a much
better looking gallery.

Fairways and GreensSun City Golf Professional Fielding Abbott, his
staff, and Course Superintendent John Hanley were
still beaming this week fol lowing compliments by
the five "pros" involved in the TV matches.
Most vocal was Peter Thomson, understandably
elated after setting a new Sun City and All-Star
Gol f record of 60. Said he: "They (the greens)
were in great shape. You can't drop putts like that
al l day unless the greens are perfectly true. I've
been playing a little better each time out lately,
but nothing like this. The best round for me before
this was a 62 in London."
He was in agreement however wi th Doug San
ders, Gary Player, Jerry Barber and Stan Leonardin dis-crediting the course
as a "pushover." Barber
j called the layout "one of
the most trapped I have
ever seen." Sanders said:
"The course is 100% bet-
ter than anything I have
j »̂ ever played on in the win-M M j ter tour."
Jerry Barber, who had

City when a PGA ruling cost him two strokes after
his caddy tamped a ball mark wi th his foot, toldAbbott he liked the course and greens.
Stan Leonard remarked: "This is a remarkable
golf course for the length of time it has been in ."

second nine opened December, 1960).
