When a couple moved into Sun City recently theywere short on furniture for the first few days. The ne igh-bors began trooping in with chairs, tables, even a tele-vision set. Women brought in plates of food for thecouple's first meal in their new home. The y gave thesethings because a neighborhood takes care of its own.

Sun City resident was called away for an extendedperiod because of family i llness. Ne ighbors offered tocare for his lawn during his absence.

Who wouldn't, they declared. He is our neighbor. Two men haul cactus plants and flowers from P a r a -

If the Christmas Spirit is one of giving, then C h r i s t -mas comes more than once a year in Sun City.

That it is more blessed to give than to receive ismanifesr daily as this spirit draws ever closer together thefamilies of this new community in a bond of friendship, understanding, compassion and, yes, love.

With all the joy in our hearts we wish each of youa happy Cihristmas and a New Ye a r of complete fulfill-ment.

L A W N CARE in the winter months doesn'trequire special genius, according to Pat Powers ofBerridge Nurseries, but there are a few techniqueswhich w i l l help residents unfamiliar w i t h Arizonahorticulture.

Winter grass, such as rye, doesn't need muchwater. Twice daily for ten or fifteen minutes shouldbe enough to allow the moisture to soak in.

Bermuda grass w i l l not start coming up, as arule, before the middle of March. Powers pointsout that is the time to boost the new lawn w i t ha shot of nitrogenous fertilizer, to make it readywhen the rye grass dies out about the first part ofA p r i l

During the winter months occasional frost w i l lk i l l off tender plants such as Bougainvillaes, poin-settias and hibiscus if they are not protected bysome covering when the temperature drops. Bowersnoted the Webb-built homes are ideally constructedw i t h wide eaves to afford protect ion to tenderplants placed near the house.

They'll usually wit hst and frosts as low as 25degrees. Below that the best place for the plants is

    in the k i tc h e n , he said.
