The Global CSR Awards 2013 is Asia’s Most Prestigious Recognition Awards programme for Corporate Social Responsibility. The programme recognizes and honors companies for outstanding, innovative and world-class products, services, projects and programmes implemented in 2012/2013. These projects should demonstrate the company’s leadership, sincerity and on-going commitment in incorporating ethical values, compliance with legal requirements, and respect for individuals, communities and the environment in the way they do business.

The Award categories for this year are:yy Best Environmental Excellence Awardyy Best Community Programme Awardyy Best Workplace Practicesyy CSR Leadership Awardyy Product Excellence Award

Companies can enter as many projects as they wish in one or more of these categories. The winning company, regardless of size, is simply one of which the opinion of the judges, best meets the criteria for each category.

CategorieS and Criteria

Best Environmental Excellence AwardThe company that has successfully implemented a major project or programme in areas such as: Energy Efficiency, Extended Product Responsibility, Green Product Design, Waste Reduction, Sustainable Business Practices and Water Conservation. Best Community Programme AwardThe company that has successfully implemented a community project that has resulted in poverty alienation, better education, business growth or community engagement. Does the company believe in creating educational opportunities for those who don’t have them or helping individuals to escape from poverty? How well does the company back up its beliefs and commitment to the community? How sustainable is the project or programme?

Best Workplace PracticesThis category includes employee ownership plans. The company will have policies and programmes in place that show the respect they have for their employees and how much they value them. How far has the company gone to take care of its employees? Dependence care, layoffs, health provisions and employee training are some of the areas that will be looked at. Privacy at work, improving quality of life at work, fostering lifelong learning and the implementation of employee ownership plans are also examples of good practice.

Many companies are well underway on their corporate sustainability journey, with increasingly impactful social and environmental programmes becoming more and more commonplace around the region.

As CSR managers look forward to see what new programmes they can introduce they are often daunted by the huge variety of options available. Also when faced with increasingly demanding guidelines on reporting environmental, social and governance performance they wonder which parts are relevant and which issues are essential for an effective communication strategy.

This short workshop will look at this whole scenario through the lens of “Materiality” – the principles for finding out what is and what is not important to your company and its stakeholders. The course will guide you through two simple tools to make materiality assessments work for your company, one to help establish material issues and the other to help prioritise those issues for further action and reporting.

What you will learn:

yy What is “materiality” and what does it mean to my company?yy Who says what is material and what is not material?yy Who are my stakeholders and what is material to them?yy What are the benefits to me of getting this right from the outset?yy How do I prioritise the material issues for strategy and reporting?yy How do I avoid irrelevant issues and are they always irrelevant?
