Open Our Hearts

Dear friend on the Sufi path, Welcome to the Summer School of the International Sufi Movement, held every summer

in the Universel Murad Hassil in Katwijk aan Zee. Sufism has been called the religion of the heart, and the Divine Spirit is meant to live within the temple of the heart. The theme of this year’s Summer School will be ‘Open Our Hearts,’ and in this connection Hazrat Inayat Khan has said: “If there is a trace of God to be found, it is in the heart of man. If it is not open enough, then the natural flow is closed, and the life becomes incomplete.”

The Summer School will emphasize personal work toward the opening of the heart. The program will include a wide range of activities, such as sacred readings, breathing practi-ces, musical attunements, meditative exercises and the singing Zikar. Of course there is al-ways the opportunity to meditate in the sacred stillness of the valley. On Commemoration day, 18 July, it will be possible to visit the graves of the brothers of Hazrat Inayat Khan in the cemetery ‘Oud Eik en Duinen’. After that visit we have lunch and organize a program in our Sufi centre in the Anna Paulownastraat in The Hague. We will have a two day program for children (>6) and lots of singing. We also feature interesting lectures by members of our Sufi community, and a special guest lecture by Marcel Derkse, a well known writer and teacher, whose work includes translations of the Masnavi by Jelaluddin Rumi. The Summer School will conclude with the Candle of Wish, a ceremony created by Hazrat Inayat Khan that acknowledges the in-most longing of our hearts.

More details on the program and information about costs and registration are enclosed. We are happy to inform you that, due to a generous donation, it has been possible to signi-ficantly reduce the prices of Summer School 2013.

By bus from Leiden CS (38) or The Hague CS (90); leave the bus at ‘Drie-plassenweg’ in Katwijk aan Zee, from there it is an 8 minutes’ walk to the Universel Murad Hassil.
