Greetings to everyone! I hope you all had a terrific Memorial Day weekend. I would like to start this Commodore’s column out to recognize and appreciate the meaning of this holiday. Let us remember the men and women who served and protected all of us in times of unrest and uncertainty. THANK YOU! The 100 Mile Cruise holds a special spot in my heart. Although I had been many times before with my parents cruising; my first time to the dance was with Julie. This was our first over the weekend date 16 years ago. This year we could not take the Seaking down South so we cruised on my parents boat “Merlion”. We started out early on Friday. Cappuccinos and cinnamon bites for breakfast on the way to the locks. We had about a ten minute wait before we got the green light for the small locks. In we go and we cleared the bell buoy outside Shilshole around a quarter to 8:00 in the morning. The cruise down was a little lumpy but we made it to Gig Harbor in good time. We got settled in Gig and waited for our fellow HHYC’ers to arrive. Kent & Carol were the next to cruise into the bay and we got a solid stern hook set. The raft soon after that built into 10 boats. Dennis

launched his brand new dinghy for the first time and got to play around in it. We had a group go for dinner at the Tides Tavern and another group that stayed back and had dinner on the boats. It was a great night out in the bay, sunny and little wind. Saturday morning we departed to Longbranch. Fast boats cruised slow, and the slow boats took advantage of the currents. We had a very nice cruise to Longbranch where we all anchored up like Pro’s and bought our tickets to the Big Barn Dance from two guys that delivered them from the marina. We had a total of 13 boats rafted in Longbranch. Several of us got in our Dinghy’s and took a little adventure to the way back of the bay, where the back woods Oyster dealer is long gone. The dance was super fun as always! Fingertips did a great set. Everyone was dancing except Kent, who did get his annual dance lesson from Julie. We closed the Barn down and headed back to the boats. No anchor slippage, so far so good. Sunday came early for all of us. The tide gave us all a huge advantage. Believe it or not we got all thirteen boats, anchors up and underway by 8:08am. The tradition for Sunday has been “do your own thing”. When we pulled into Poulsbo there were already a couple of boats

anchored. We like to anchor right in front of the Marina’s mouth. So we ended up having two rafts, one boat in the marina and a couple of other boats went to different bays. After getting settled, we plowed into the Host dinghy and 10 of us went to Casa Luna for late lunch “Linner” and Cadillac Margaritas. There was another group that went to the German restaurant, Tizley’s Euro Pub for dinner. After Casa Luna, we all cruised back to our raft. Julie & I took the dinghy out and went to visit Howard & Chandell Gray and Mike & Erin Howshar. They all are “Host with the Most”. I also got to hang out with little Zach, what a sweetheart! The weather turned out to be better than expected on Monday. Everyone left at different times throughout the day. We came back Monday evening and had another easy locking through the small locks. I want to thank all of you who attended the 100 Mile Cruise. It was An AWARD WINNING weekend! Julie & I look forward to seeing you all at the next meeting and also in Edmonds, looking like Hobo’s! Stay Safe, James
