Beer & Food Garden: The Barrington Fire Depart-ment will be hosting a beer and food garden on the
from noon till 8:00 pm with entertainment. Make sure to stop by during or after the festival as a great time is sure to be had by all!
Classic Car Show: The Classic Car Show is return-ing for its 6th year and will feature original and modi-

Barrington’s Got Talent: Last year was the fourth year for our local version of American Idol. You will be amazed at the talent we have here in Barrington. Whatever your talent, now is the time to put it out there for everyone to see. The 5th annual talent show will be held in conjunction with the Annual Harvest Festival. All local residents are invited to participate and there is no age restriction. Participants can be individuals or groups and are give a maximum of 3 minutes for their presentation. We will audition participants in advance
at the Harvest Festival. The top winners will receive ca$h prizes!!! If you are interested in participating, send an email to [email protected] with the following information: 1) Names and ages of partici-pants; 2) type of presentation; 3) the name of the song if applicable (lyrics will be reviewed for appropriate-ness); the length of your presentation; and 4) contact numbers for you or your group. We will be scheduling auditions sometime in September and adequate notice will be given. If minors are participating, a parental consent form will be required. BBQ Cookoff: I know many of you were happy to see the return of the BBQ cookoff last year. Thanks to Brian Schmidt for stepping up to handle it. The BBQ cookoff has always been a very popular event at the festival and we are thankful to Brian for it being able to continue. The Civic Association will be sponsoring an even bigger and better Basket Auction with tons of fantastic prizes.
We are still looking for additional craft and food ven-dors to apply to participate. Please call 856-761-4482 or email [email protected]. The Harvest Festival Committee is looking for volunteers to help out by working one hour shifts at various locations on the day of the festival. Help us continue to make this a great celebration for everyone by volunteering today! We welcome all of our local organizations and businesses to participate in the festival. Christine Sikora started diving at Tavistock Swim Club when she was 5 yrs. old and hasn’t stopped since. She took gymnastics until she was 8 yrs old which helped her make the transition to diving easy, espe-cially since she loved the wa-ter. Thanks to the coaching she received at Tavistock, she ex-celled at the Tri-County Cham-pionships, winning medals as a novice diver. In 6th grade she joined Spinner Diving at Drexel University, diving 3 days a week year round. She continued there until 8th grade and within this past year has joined TNT Diving at Rowan University coached by Andy Mackoff. She recently partici-pated in the Tri-County Diving
Championship held at Wedge-wood placing 2nd in the 14-15 Girls Junior Olympic Division. This year as a sophomore, she will be representing Haddon
Heights High School at the State Championships. In ad-diton to diving she plays Field Hockey and Softball for Had-don Heights. She’s not sure what her future plans are but is looking forward to her next competition.
Steve Sciortino, a recent Heights graduate, will be at-tending Arcadia University in Glenside, Pa. His undergradu-ate studies will be in Health Administration. After college, Steven plans to continue his education, attending graduate school to pursue a career in physical therapy. Steven will also continue his outstand-ing baseball career at Arcadia. Good Luck to Steven, and keep checking out the Bright Lights section in future editions as we hope to get updates on how he’s progressing!

SHEARENITY EMBROIDERY and Gift Shop is a locally owned and operated business that offers more than just custom embroidery. The owner, Donna Kendra has been embroidering

She loves working with customers developing designs or en-hancing logos, then bringing their ideas to life in beautiful, vibrant, unique em-broidery on just about any fabric. Some recent custom embroidery includes work for Irish Dance Bling, creators of custom Irish Dance dresses, jackets for Haddon Heights Soccer and Softball Colonial Conference winners and the Vikings cheerleaders’ uniforms. Sports Led by coach Donny Lang, these boys compiled a 12-1 record, 9-1 regu-lar season, 3-0 in playoffs. Their only loss came when only 4 players were avail-able for a game, and that loss was by 2 points! Much thanks, to Coach Lang and a well deserved “high-Five” to the boys. They are the 2011 South Jersey Sports Academy Champs!

The Haddon Heights High School baseball and softball teams both had remarkable seasons, and solid playoff runs. There is much promise for both teams as they play on in 2012! The following players were recognized by their conference for their achieve-ments in 2011.

Softball: Liberty Division, First Team Shayla Sweeney, Jackie Emerle, Chel-sea Thomas. Second Team: Maddie McCleery.
Congratulations to these standout players. It was hard-work, commit-ment, and practice that led to their rec-ognition. Also, its good to acknowledge all the athletes that competed from our area. It takes heart, willingness to put themselves in competitive situations, where it’s sink or swim, and wisdom to grow from both success and failure that make them special.
