It celebrated this building as an integral part of the community’s history, Welcome to Your Community Centre celebrated the strong community spirit of the district; and it strengthened the connections between its Service Organisations and the public. The Institute’s Hall acted as an “old time” gathering place for discovering new connections and community involvement and enjoying the Celebrating this Building brings to mind, the long, important history of the Mechanics’ Institutes in Australia, since 1827. Isolated regional areas in Australia benefited greatly from the local Institutes and their Libraries. A central point for the community. Societal needs were met with their Halls. The event featured Displays of art works as well as articles and items of local historical interest. Demonstrations by groups from the Community House – Children and adults learning and enjoying creative processes – The Shire Library featured a giant Scrabble set in use which was made by the Men’s Group as well as story time for kids and a book stall - A display of a variety of works by the Men’s Shed A tea room with free refreshments served from the building’s Commercial Kitchen.
