The first edition of the Summer School Differences and Plural Identities will focus on Gender & Queer Theories.The topic chosen is not fortuitous: indeed, this year the national LGBTQI Pride will be celebrated in Palermo. The Summer School will come on with the Third Edition of the Sicilia Queer filmfest, the International Festival of “LGBTQI and Cinema New Showings”.In the past two years, the filmfest has addressed with its program both University students and teachers working in primary and secondary schools. The cycle of seminars will focus on Queer Variations of Gender and Sexuality.The seminars will be organized in five morning meetings, taking place at the ex Convento of Sant’Antonio; while the afternoon workshops will be carried on at the cinemas “De Seta” and “Rouge et Noir”. During the workshops, the students will look at chosen movies and will discuss them with film-makers, cinema critics, and experts of the field, who have been invited in Palermo for the “Sicilia Queer filmfest”.

Italian and English will be spoken during the meetings.

SUMMER SCHOOLDIFFERENCES AND PLURAL IDENTITIES

In our contemporary society, to take into consideration and live together with all kinds of differences (of gender, class, race, sexual orientation, religion, culture, language, etcetera) represents indeed a richness rather than a limit.The Summer School is organized by the Department of Humanities, the Department of Cultural Studies andthe Department of Law Studies, Society and Sport of the University of Palermo, together with the Association “Sicilia Queer, in agreement with the principles of “Europe 2020”, the European Community’s growth strategy based on social and territorial cohesion”. The Summer School aims at making more valuable different experiences already set up by regional academic institutions, organizations, and cultural entrepreneurship.The goal is to train students to cultivate connexions and inclusions by using an interdisciplinary perspective that ranges over all the fields of knowledge: from the linguistic and the literary ones to the anthropological, the historical and the socio-political; from the cinematographic to the visual arts; from gender and queer studies to post-colonial studies.The Sole-Luna association-A Bridge Among Cultures, which organizes the “SoleLuna Festival”, will be partner of the Summer School.
