Summer Reading 2018

Summer reading is an integral way for students to develop a love of reading and

literature, as well as maintain reading competency during the summer. Research

tells us that students need to read during the summer. In the fall, there is a wide

ability gap between the students who have read over the summer and those who

have not. This gap makes it increasingly difficult to keep up with grade level

expectations. We want students to be able to choose from a variety of books that

will allow them to select a book that appeals to their interest and ability.

Students need to choose 3 books from the reading list provided. Students will also

respond to that literature in a creative way by filling out the Book Response Form.

Enclosed in this folder is a copy of the book list as well as the Book Response

Forms. Students need to return the completed forms on the first day of school.

Have a wonderful summer!

Sincerely,

Miss Leyhan
