At the salvation Army Kroc centerpeople are inspired to discover their God given talents and develop their potentialthrough artistic, educational, physical and spiritual experiences in a christ-centered atmosphere.

It’s About the MissionThe Salvation Armythe Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal christian church. its message is based on the Bible. its ministry is motivated by the love for God. its mission is to

preach the gospel of Jesus christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

Nearly 33 million Americans receive assistance from the Salvation Army each year through a wide array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children. About 83 cents of every dollar raised is used to support those services in nearly 9,000 communities nationwide.

For more information, go to www.salvationarmyusa.org.

Joan Kroc’s Visionin January of 2004, Joan Kroc, wife of the Mcdon-ald’s restaurant chain founder Ray Kroc, left a gift of $1.6 billion to the Salvation Army to build and oper-ate community centers around the country. Joan’s vision was that people in underserved areas would be given access to a high quality facility with a variety of programs so they might discover their natural gifts and talents. Kroc centers are now located in 26 cities, including Hawaii and Puerto Rico!

the Omaha Kroc center, which opened in the fall of 2009, is one of five located in the Salvation Army’s central Region. it was made possible through both the generosity of Ray and Joan Kroc as well as the Omaha community. Our Kroc center currently serves approximately 3,000 members. the facility, programs and events are also open to the general public. in addition, groups and businesses rent the Kroc center for a wide variety of professional meetings and personal events. For more information, please visit www.OmahaKroc.org.

“My favorite part of coaching kids is watching them develop in the sport they participate. in a short 6 or 7 week session, a child who has never played a sport can dramatically improve. to be able to coach your child is a parent’s dream. if it’s at home, in school or on the field it’s important to be coaching your child. Watching my son Ryan improve at anything he does, and knowing i was an active part in his growth is very fulfilling as a parent.

Ryan is now beginning to manage his time and equipment related to soccer practice and games. He is also paying attention to the things he eats and drinks prior to practices and games. He’s learning teamwork and social skills and as he moves into an older age group i expect his leadership skills will develop as well.

As a parent it’s important to encourage your child to try many different activities. Once we enrolled Ryan in Kroc Soccer, his entire demeanor changed. He became a better student, better at home and much more personable. the Kroc has truly been wonderful for our family. ”

Dear members and Friends of the Kroc Center:

29 He told them this parable: “Look at the fig tree and all the trees. 30 When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near. 31 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near.

– Luke 21:29-31 (NIV)

Spring is come and soon summer will be upon us. How do you prepare for summer fun? Plan vacations, plan staycations, plan day trips for the family? We always look forward to summer, we can enjoy sunshine and leisure and outdoor activities. We put behind us the thoughts of snow and ice and get lost in cloud watching and the smell of fresh flowers. How can we get the most out of our summer?

in order to create fond family memories we need to find a center of activities that can unite us. Sometimes it is around the patio or in our own back yard. Sometimes it is at a park or a pool. i would invite you to consider making memories together as a family at the Kroc center. Where else can the family find something for each individual’s interests, such as Zumba for Mom, the fitness deck for dad, the soccer field for one child and the computer lab for another? then after some time for each individual goal, unite around the pool deck or enjoy a family activity at one of our Summer Nights.

Whatever your interests you can find a variety of activities this summer at the Kroc center that will meet your individual need to achieve or create memories for the entire family. Here are just a few activities you can participate in this summer:

• Summer Nights • inflatable Fridays • Kayak Races• Father’s day Picnic • Kiddy Soccer • Summer youth Feeding Program

the Kroc center provides many other activities for the entire family to create lasting summer memories and discover new interests together. you are all invited to come and make the Kroc center your place for summer fun.

the signs of summer’s approach are nearing, are you prepared to create a summer to remember?

What makes the Kroc Center so special? it’s not the Aquatics Center or the game room or even the advanced fitness equip-ment (though those things are awfully nice). it’s the mission! The mission of The salvation Army is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in his name without discrimination.

One of the ways we accomplish this mission is by creating programs and services that develop assets in youth and families. Developmental assets are en-riching. They help individuals reach their potential and contribute to their families, schools, and communities. Developmental assets lead to more caring, responsible, healthy, and productive habits and allow individuals to have a more positive self-view.*

The Kroc Center is special because it is intentionally creating pathways for each person to be inspired, receive instruction, and to get involved in a variety of ways. The salvation Army Kroc Center is committed to providing access to resources that can transform your life!

*Based on research from the Search Institute

As a convenience for our members and guests, young children (ages 1-7) can visit KidZone, which is supervised by our nurturing staff. While mom and dad are working out in the Fitness Center, using our Computer Lab or taking classes, kids enjoy games and puzzles, crafts or structured activities in a safe and enriching environment. For a schedule of structured activities, view the monthly Drop-in schedule.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Along with the daily activities, KidZone kids can also participate in special events for holidays and other occasions. This season, watch for our Little Princess Day and Animal Adventure Day – see page 30 for descriptions and event pricing.

FlOAT4lIFE lESSONS AGES 1 - 3 Float4Life is a water safety program that teaches young children, ages 1-3, how to roll on their backs (like an Otter!) so they can breathe, float and reach the side of the pool until help arrives. Those precious seconds can save a life! Sessions include 8 lessons, each 15 min-utes long. These “mini” lessons maximize the short attention span of toddlers while gradually increas-ing the child’s comfort level in the water through personalized one-to-one instruction. The program is a partnership between the Omaha Kroc Center and the Joshua Colling-sworth memorial Foundation.

“Too Brief Here On Earth, But His Impact Will Last Forever…”

Josh the Otter was created in honor of Joshua Collingsworth, a 21/2 old little boy who was lost to a drown-ing accident in June of 2008 in Lincoln, NE. His parents believed they had all the pool safety barriers in place but did not spend enough time talking to him about never go-ing near the pool unless mom and dad were with him. During a fam-ily gathering he was briefly out of sight, went to fill his brother’s squirt gun, lost his balance and fell in the pool. Josh the Otter’s goal is to educate all children that water is fun but only with an adult. The Joshua Collingsworth memorial Foundation is dedicated to water safety and life saving programs like Float4Life.

Joan Kroc knew that healthy, happy, confident people are better parents, earn higher grades in

school, enjoy their jobs and are more productive, and actively pursue a better future for their

community. That is why she trusted The salvation Army with her dream that Kroc Centers would

bring communities together.

Omaha’s Kroc Center does this every day. We start by honoring what each person brings with them

and then match them to programs and activities that help them discover and develop those unique

talents. Our goal is to help everyone achieve successes that build confidence and self-esteem. We

sometimes encounter a family who we know would really benefit from the Kroc Center, but they

simply can’t afford to join. That is when the generosity of donors kicks in.

The Kroc Center’s Scholarship Fund permits us to reduce the cost of membership to a

level that anybody can afford. When you donate to support scholarships, you’re honoring Mrs.

Kroc’s original founding gift to the salvation Army. she wanted Kroc Centers to provide benefit to

the community and to be sustained by the community.

More importantly, your gift helps families right here in Omaha develop important skills

and confidence, and enjoy some quality time together. Your donation goes to work

immediately to keep memberships and program costs low, assuring everybody has

access. Just like Joan Kroc wanted.

TO DOnATe, please contact John Wehrle, Director of Donor relations at 402-905-3527.

Thank you for your support.
