Program of Studies:– intensive course– 6 class units a day, 45 minutes each– groups of min. 4 up to 15 students– from beginner to proficiency level– language of instruction at beginner levels: English– special groups for heritage speakers of Hungarian– placement test before the course starts– Debrecen Summer School examination and certificate (ECTS credit points)

The age limit for participants in these courses is 16 years of age. Participants between 14 and 16 years of age can form a separate group of minimum 4 students. In this case, accommodation and supervision shall be the responsibility of their parents.

Cultural Activities:– opening ceremony– guided tour in Debrecen– weekend excursions (one in every two weeks)– Hungarian gastronomy and foodways– folk dances and folk songs– quiz– farewell party

Leisure Activities:– tandem chat with Hungarian students– disco, karaoke night– sports

Cultural Activities

Debrecen Summer School specializes in teaching Hungarian as a foreign language and diffusing knowledge of Hungarian culture. Its mission is to help its students pursue specific aspects of the Hungarian language and culture in depth. Disseminating the cultural values of any given nation is an inalienable part of teaching that nation’s language. Consequently, the cultural programs offered at Debrecen Summer School’s courses greatly contribute to the success of the primary task, teaching Hungarian. That is why summer courses include events which serve to provide entertainment value as well as information about Hungarian culture and also opportunities to study the language in an informal way.

Participants of the Hungarian language and culture courses benefit from the opportunity to take one-day coach trips to Hungarian regions and towns of historic, cultural, or ethnographic importance. Guided sightseeing tours in Debrecen help students get to know the venue of their course in depth. The activities belonging to the field of folklore such as táncház [dancehouse] and learning folk songs are always very popular.
